    Suitable plug materials

I'm keen to have a play around with fibreglass and perspex. I have many ideas, including bodywork for my minimoto and bucket, a MotoGP inspired single tank/tail unit for my VFR, and a new windscreen for my VFR.

I was wondering what materials would suit making plugs for moulds. It'd have to be bulky, easy enough to shape and in the case with perspex it'll have to withstand being in the oven. In my old graphics class we used a dense blue foam that would be good for getting the general shape, then bog could be used over it. What is that stuff called, how much does it cost and where can you get it from? For perspex I assume wood would be my best option?

What other materials would be cheaper or better suited?

I've used paper mache over a wire frame to get close to the screen shape, and then used that to make a plaster of paris plug.

It can be sanded and filled till the shape is just right, and is OK in the oven. (and it's real cheap).

I suppose that would also work for your fairings too.

Awesome. Might give that a shot.
