    Happy Shortest Day!

It's the shortest day of the year today! Winter Solstice. Happy shortest day, longest night!
It's time to go out and party, take off all your clothes, dance in the moonlight, perhaps ingest copious amounts of ethanol or whatever you like.

I'm off to an all-night outdoor dance party/rave near Dunedin, hope it's not too frosty to ride there at 11pm.
I will not sleep for the next 35 hours, as I have the party all night tonight, then work tomorrow until 6pm. Yahoo!

Thanks! Are you serious about the commune?? Are you going to go? Hilarous!

Good new name by the way. Still recognisable as you.

Don't know if the weather is going to pick up just yet. We have had 4 good frosts one on top of another lately. Usually from my experience the weather gets colder and wetter and windier until October. Happy winter solstice to you anyway.

Yeah mate, the coldest day of the year isn't actually until a fair bit after the shortest day usually, so don't get too excited yet. It's gonna get nastier before it gets nicer.
Who, me? I just wander from thread to thread.

That's true my lovely but it still means we're half way through winter, only another half to go. yay. Molten tarmac and bugs are half a season closer.

Yay! I'm celebrating the longest night with a roaring fire, comfort food and spicey mulled wine!

Go on, I dare you. Light some candles, snuggle under a rug and enjoy the winter weather.

Mulled wine to seduce your lover
1 bottle of red wine (or three cups of red wine out of a cask)
Spices (eg cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, cloves, allspice, aniseed... fresh whole spices are best but ground will do)
Citrus (orange or lemon or both) sliced up
Sweetness to taste (brown sugar, honey or white sugar)

Put everything in a pot (or a slow cooker or a coffee urn). Warm gently & stir until sugar is dissolved. Leave everything to steep over a low heat - leave it for an hour if you can, but 5 minutes will do. Do not boil.

Serve in heat-resistant vessels. If serving in a glass, pre-warm the glass so it doesn't crack, and wrap a serviette around it so your lover doesn't burn his/her fingers! Make sure there is a cinnamon stick or a slice of citrus in each cup for decoration.

Fill the house with the spicy smell of winter... serve with a chunk of dark chocolate... wrap your lover in a blanket and take him/her to bed.
There is no such thing as bad weather; only inappropriate clothing!

We sacrificed a bull at a make-shift altar and danced around a big bonfire on the Porthills tonight.
Then we drank some blood and had an orgy!

    It was totally awesome!
