Carless days didn't work last time and won't work this time.
Chances of such a scheme being adopted in an election year? Nil.

Our carless day was Monday with a green sticker from memory. We lived in the country though, but we still had to comply as far as I'm aware (I was a child then) but I remember it being a ridiculous scheme, which most people got around some how or other.

a bit off topic but for whatever reason, carless days reminds me of

The thing with car-less days way back then was that most families only had one car.

With two cars and a motorcycle it would be a total waste of time in my family.

What I find interesting in NZ is that little was learned from that experience - we still carry limited stocks of petrol in NZ - I read somewhere a while back that if deliveries to NZ stopped it is only a matter of weeks until the country is dry. We should be stockpiling the stuff like China.

If the government is actually interested in the public conserving fuel (and really why should they be - its a hell of a tax earner) they could easily offer reduced rego costs or tax rebates on fuel efficient vehicles and higher rates on gas guzzlers. This current government would probably just add a purchase or sales tax to the inefficient ones.

I say get out on your bikes and give that throttle a good twist while it is still affordable

My mate Sam used to drive to school in his 59 Velox with an arm draped out, and around, over the bottom of the screen where his thurs sticker was. But he was saving petrol! Don't think he ever got the old bitch to fire on more than 3 cyl!

You're right! He was indeed built like a spider monkey but bottom RHS of the screen it was. He was the sort of guy the cops felt sorry for and sent on his way. Know what I mean? Sure you do!
