Being frustrated is disagreeable.
But the real disasters in life begin when you get what you want.
On a really slooooooooooooooooow PC. I'm in Motueka - have had a lovely time along the way so far. Came from Farewell Spit today.
Off to Hokitika tomorrow with a stop in Westport. I'm not going to Karamea now as I have a mate to catch up with. Will pop by Blackball though.
Been swimming & sweating. Betty & I are having fun but, riding alone does suck a bit at times.
See all you Southern riders soon.
Thanks to Chick'n'Charge & Nordie Boy for riding with me so far.
Ok - logging off now, computer is crap.
Byeeeeeeeeeeeeee.
My goal in life is to be as good a person as my dog already thinks I am.
Try Denniston... ride to the top to the mine workings... if you get time (just north of Westport)Originally Posted by Celtic_Sea_lily

Good idea - good ride up the hill and the place has amazing history and an unsual atmosphere - check out the top of the Denniston Incline (go left at the top of the hill) there is an shelter with photos and info board - the Incline was one of the greatest engineering feats of its time.Originally Posted by Skunk

Whenever I bring up the subject of 'Dennistoun' someone knows someone who came from the area.Originally Posted by sels1

Shit I remember that place I musta been bout 10 at the time, the drive up was in fog could only see just past the frount of the car hood (near new Maxi) At the top of the hill all I remember is the old buildings left the way they were when the joint was deserted. There were no other people around, it had a very weird feeling and I clearly remember the fire house..... we pushed a half open door open and snuk in, the fire truck was still there as was most of the gear................... but I bet today its either been ransacked or comersialised either way it would be naffed.Originally Posted by sels1

Yeah I first went there about that age but there were still a few things operating - went down a working mine, and had a "shandy" in the little pub (yes, my first underage drink - in a West Coast pub of course) that was formally the grocery store that my Dad was born in the back of in 1918)Originally Posted by dangerous
I have been there recently and there isnt much left - a lot has been ransacked as you suggest. There is still a few people living there and a Museum in the old school house. But there is still that eerie ghost town feeling that is hard to describe.Originally Posted by dangerous
Cathy, if you can spare an hour it is worth the trip. Take the Karamea road, about 15ks north of Westport is Waimangaroa. Turn right (East) and go up the hill - its easy to find.

Got a txt today she's been to Karamea and is now in Greymouth staying with a friend, and she reckons the Westport-Greymouth road is a great road to ride!
I also got a text from her. I was at work, having one of those "I wish I was a child labourer in a Chinese sweat shop, making rip off Nyke shoes, since that would be better than what I'm doing now" days, when I got the text saying how utterly WONDERFUL south island roads are, and how BEAUTIFUL it is there, and what a GREAT time she's having.....![]()
I'm glad she's having a good time down there. I also look forward to some of that Sth. Island hospitality
:spudwave:
SC.... they are great rds on the coast, did them just last w/e, also got a txt..... must be costing her more than fuel![]()
