We shouldn't have to pay these rates because we happen to ride motorcycles. Off road riders, quad bikers and as a few folk have said, rugby players don't pay so why should we? If ACC on vehicles were based on perceived risk then truck drivers (much larger mileage) and young male drivers should have higher rates.

The fact of the matter is that the majority of motorcyclists have at least car and therefore already pay ACC. Many motorcyclists also have multiple motorcycles. To argue that it's fair that they pay ACC $200(ish) a year for a motorcycle that may go out just a handful of times a year is ridiculous.
Too true, never thought of it that way.

three quarters of accidents the motorcyclist was not at fault
What anybody fails to tell you though, is that the figure was the result of a small specific study of 43 accidents that occurred on Great North Rd, Great South Rd, Karangahape Rd, Newton Rd and Ponsonby Rd, between 2001 and 2005.

That figure was not derived from nationwide New Zealand statistics.

    DR 650 = $650 a year for rego (NZ$819)

    Toyota camper van = $526 (NZ$662)

    Full insurance is extra.
It would not surprise me if NZ follows the third party policy as here and also the proposed (2009) front number plate on motorcycles.

Front numberplate will help indeed with road safety....
Heard they are going to combine all revenue collecting government departments into one, (0800 bendover)
You can have your wages paid into their account directly, if there is anything left over at the end of the monththey will either pay it back to you.....or more likely add yet another extortion.
Opinions are like arseholes: Everybody has got one, but that doesn't mean you got to air it in public all the time....

If they bump it up that much (aussie prices) I can see alot of people running around with no rego's and more people pulling runners from the cops

Isn't it great to have the KB forum to bitch about yet another hit to our wallets! Will it stop me registering my rides? No!
My wee bitch is just MHO! Cheers.
When you take thousands of photos of your bike does the light from the flash weaken the plastic?

So are you implying we should ignore the statistics from Land Transport NZ because we don't like what it shows and go with some "three quarters of accidents the motorcyclist was not at fault" bullshit instead because it suits us better?

So 'safer' cars are actually costing society more money to keep seriously injured people alive/paid for, where in the past they would more than likely have died?

I dont think it's the people that are becoming more resistant to dying in vehicle accidents!
