That's cheap mate. How would I go about getting insurance then? They say that they don't insure when the owner is a learner rider... how on earth am I meant to get insurance?

Yeah, bike valued to what though, and what license? $1,100 excess is a lot. (400+700 for those who are <21.)

Most new riders are looking at well over that.

Hmmm you don't have your car license either? All they asked me was how long have you had your NZ driver license, any kind, and I said I've had my full car license for 4 years and that's all they wanted. Didn't ask for motorcycle specific lol.

Don't be a softcock.. take your angry biker mates around there and tell him to start talking sense, or start off with smashing his fucking telly, coining his car etc... He will get the message.

Exactly what happened to me a wee while back...

I got t-boned, neither of us insured.

I'm still trying to get the money out of him..

Go to the police, most important advice. Then take him to court if he starts trying to buy time or whatever.

I feel for yah mate.. i'm in the exact same situation.

Compulsory Third Party Insurance is part of the Registration Fee (as it was in the 70's). It was carried by State Insurance as I recall.

I went to AMI, they said that, i told them the family has all our policy's with them (house, contents, cars + bikes) and we'd simply find someone else. They changed tune, and insured me to ride an RGV250 , 4 years later and i've still to make a claim... safer rather than sorry

call them up and say how many years you've had a car licence (ages) and how many accidents you've had in a car (none). state will change your insurance profile to say you're on your restricted MC licence for insurance purposes.

mine was actually $250 a year though. huge excess as well. i'm glad i have it though - in a thunderstorm your life has no value so long as cagers make it home in time for dinner.

Thats a nice way to fork out money for no cover. Insurance covers their ass by
by stating that if they find anything false then your cover will be terminated. If you have say you have a rest mc but only a learners...no payment, if you stated only your car details like in robs case..no cover etc. When I got insurance they asked a lot of questions, I was warned a billion times about falsities and all sorts of other crap. I rang state, under 25 is the age they do not under 21, your looking at 1500 dollar excess for a learner/restricted with 500 roughly premium. Not cheap. I have rung a lot of insurance companies believe me, I'm forking fuckloads out for comprehensive insurance.

What grinds my gears though is how 90% of motorcycle accidents will be rider at fault as a lot of the time no one else is involved i.e we hit oil and low side, slippery corner we low side, ice we low side, diesel ad you highside it, tire blowouts then crash etc. You can't judge a motorcycle with the same rules as you judge a car *cars don't fall over on as easily*. There should be different rules and stipulations where even if there wasn't another party, if evidence if given of an anomaly out of your control happened, then you are not at fault.

Cop out for the insurance company in my view. Especially with learners when they're like, that'll be 1500 bucks please....but your bike is worth only 3, and the remaining 1500 gets devalued cos they ring tim-bak-fucking-too to get a price so you end up with like 500 bucks in hand.

    Sorry...rant over.

Hope you get better mate. Ring the police! Tell them. It will help you. If an accident ever occurs, ring the police..always.
