Radar detectors/scramblers/GPS?

Radar dectors, ive seen 2 in 1 dector and scrambler, and just the single dector units. Is there much difference/benefits between the two?

As for GPS, Im looking at Navman S50 or S90 or something with bluetooth as eventually I'll be using it for riding. Also these two models can download fixed speed camera locations but the S30 dosent have that feature. Prices for these two models is around $100 cheaper on Trade Me compared to Dick Smith.

Just wanting some info.....im in the mood for gadgets and buttons

detector/scrambler - they are two different things put in the same box. The detector is a traditional radar detector for sniffing the feds out as usual, and a scrambler is usually a laser-jammer - the effectiveness of which has been widely debated. There have been some tests which have demonstrated some brands of jammer to be effective against laser, but on the other hand there is very little laser activity around and there are a lot of falses from modulated light sources, and also once they have locked you on laser (instant!) you are pretty much screwed anyway.

So the answer to your question is "there is a laser jam feature in the scrambler one" but the question is how often will it actually do anything for you, is it worth the extra money, and is it even effective? If you will enjoy riding around "jamming police lasers haw haw haw" then do it..

Don't waste money on detectors. There's nothing that can beat the Pulsing Fuzz(TM). You're better to rely on your eyesight and instincts.

Awww i dont know lol, my detector has saved me a fortune in fines !
A good one mind you, got the V1 and it goes off well b4 i see em !
The thing ya have to consider is, whether you feel like investing a grand on a good set up, when there is talk of outlawing them !

Detector/SCRAMBLER = crap.

Get a decent detector (that will not pick up false alerts) and has a decent range, and you will have a better idea who is around. I have upgraded to a Bel STi driver, and it is picking up bacon a km away over a hill!!. Am I happy...
The mk1 eyeball dosen't have that capability.

Debatable advice re detectors. Firstly, not all cops use instant-on and secondly, you pick up activitiy up and down the road with them pinging other people. Then there's camera vans when your brain is at half mast - a detector is very handy! Of course, whether you want to spend money on on with anti-detector legislation in the pipeline is another thing.

While i agree with you on the POP instant-on and laser points, I disagree that they are useless otherwise. I get countless Ka? senses everywhere, but I have only seen one POP sense in the last three months, and that was from a mufti car where I would have no hope of detecting him by eye anyway. I caught a glimpse of the car and driver going the other way and there were no visual clues that this was a cop. On the open road, I get substantial warning over the horizon on Ka.

Well my ex had a dector in the car, and we were driving along, he had it on cop drove past in opposite direction, the radar didnt go off, and the ex didnt slow down...then cop turned his unit on and ping....u turn woop wopp too late. I usually follow that gut instinct and keep an eye open.

Just not sure about them. This legislation which is in the pipeline, any ideas on when it will surface? Chances are yes they will be banned if its been brought up in parliment.

Any legislation will take a bloody long time to be passed by the residents of the circular wind-tunnel.
Then there is the difficulties of enforccement. The latest detectors are immune to the police's detector-detectors. Hence another reason to get a Bel...

I'm not getting rid of mine. Law or no law.
