The Greatest Raid of all time

I can think of no greater use of your broadband than this.

This is an awe-inspiring documentary covering the Commando raid on St Nazaire , France in World War 2. If you read it in a book you wouldn't believe it to be true.

Set aside an hour to watch one of the greatest tales of courage ever and be proud of these men.

The Greatest Raid of all time.

My great Uncle Bert was killed in that raid. He was in an Army Commando unit. The losses were horrendous. In some sections no one made it back alive. Makes you think aye?

Very good documentary! Thanks for the link.

I couldn't help but chuckle a bit and recall a well known scene from Monty Python when they talked about the fella who, during the disembarkment from the destroyer, cheered the other guys on after he had one of his legs blown off...

...but then you think about it a bit... Nothing but respect for the men who put their lives on the line that night!

If you are interested in the rehersals for "D Day" do some research on the 'Dieppe Raids" Frightening when you look at it from today's perspective.

I read a book (Tumult in the clouds) by an American fighter pilot who was involved with the air cover for that operation. He could not believe the waste and is of the opinion that an attack on the Channel Islands would have been wiser. This would have met the "needs" of intelligence gathering and also would have provided a forward base of operations in addition to an alternative airfield for damaged allied aircraft.
