Ticketed on my mountain bike for no rego!!

I got a ticket on my mountain bike for no rego in ChCh the other day coming home in 5pm traffic on Tuam st between Madras and Barbadoes Sts.
I was flat out in the cyclelane passing other cyclists with my 48cc motrax engine sceaming its little nuts off!
Bloody ex MoT bike cop on a BMW pulled me over and gave me a $200 ticket for no rego.
Ok, thats fair enuff...after all, it was only a matter of time, but he refused to give me a warning and went straight for the jugular!!
What really really REALLY pissed me off was he told me if he saw me in the cycle lane ever again he would ticket me for that as well!!!!!!
Soooo...what do I do? Ride in the main lane and get knocked off by some impatient cage driver, or even worse, flattened and killed by a truck like that cop's boss did on the Petone roundabout or wherever it was?
He told me that was my problem and I promptly replied " So this is all about writing tickets and issuing fines and its NOT about ROAD SAFETY is it now Officer?
    no comment.
    Nah, didnt think so.
I think I WILL be using the cycle lanes and if and when I get pulled again, I will be mentioning the top cop's recent demise and how I DONT wanna end up like him....eh?
    What would you lot do?

Umm - it has an engine, (48cc), therefore it is a Moped, so you're supposed to have moped rego (MR2B from your local postshop or AA centre). Pretty simple really.

rego the thing, send the letter and stop being a tight ass lol use the gixer
Or be the aggressor with the cage drivers lol take out the odd wing mirror if they try and squeeze ya out !
A girlfriend once asked " Why is it you seem to prefer to race, than spend time with me ?"
The answer was simple ! "I'll prolly get bored with racing too, once i've nailed it !"

They have a crack down in CHCH on those silly cycle lanes every so often. They ticket anyone driving on them! Personally I think they are dangerous and give the cyclist a false sense of security.

In your case it was probably the speed you were doing in the lane that ticked him off. I see heaps of scooters, moped etc trickling along the inside in the cycle lanes.

And lets face it on a 48cc moped that is a safe place to be as it just irritates car drivers if you sit in middle of the road putting along at 40. Or worse those ones that take up the left of the lane then swing out to pass parked cars.

Your rego will be cheap, so get that done and I'd continue with the cycle lanes (in a responsible manner slowly filtering along of course) and contest a tick if you receive one.

So you knew it needed a registration, yet you rode the vehicle without one then expect leniency when you get pinged.

Here's an idea: abide by the rules we are all subject to, pay your dues and stop being a prat who's trying to have it both ways.

If the rego was a day or two over then yes he was hard on you. If it was weeks or months over then "SUCK IT UP". You played RUSSIAN ROULETTE and got shot, shame.

    haha, get real.

No one wants to follow the rules. I'm sure you have your own slightly-altered version of the rules, just like the next person does.

At first I thought it was just a mountain bike... but a bike with an engine? That MUST fall under the catogery of a Moped mate. Depending on the top speed (which should be no more than 50 anyway) would determine wether or not you should be taking the bus route. BTW: I ride my push bike on the side of the road (not the footpath, the ROAD) along main roads during CRAZY traffic, not a problem in sight. Just keep awake the whole time mate.

Get her a WOF... I don't think you even need to license the thing... so it's a cheap round.

AHAHA mountain bike with a number plate! XD

Yeah it sucks getting pinged for a lapsed rego (provided it's not too far over!) the way i see it is that it doesn't in anyway effect the safety of the bike, and it gets back dated anyway so the gummint will get it's dues soon enough.....so what does it matter?

It doesnt need a wof, it needs a rego cause its a moped!
You lot are all missing the point! I dont mind the ticket...that was inevitable.
What pissed me off was being told I was NOT to ride in the cycle lanes!!!

um, you dont have to do what he says. Unless you are a fearful little goody-goody, then you should do exactly what everyone tells you to do.

Probably it wouldn't hurt to slow down a bit. Sounds like he was a little ticked orf at ya.
