The thing with the Oxford chill outs and other type garments is they keep the wind out, Wool doesnt do that...

I find the key thing is to have wool underneath a PVC (or similar) shell.

For motorcycling, I'd be inclined to have a giant wooly jumper to wear over my leathers, and then put an even giant-er raincoat over that.

It makes one look like a bowling ball on two wheels, but you'll be warm and dry while all the twits in their 'rainproof' cordura are dealing with icy wet nadgers.

Hallenstein's are selling lamb's wool jerseys for $29.95, and $39.95.

The temptation with bike gear is to buy bike specific stuff like an Oxford Chill-Out shirt for 1 million dollars, but there are plenty of alternatives if you are on a budget.

Lamb's wool is a dense natural fibre that doesn't have a great deal of bulk so it is suitable for wearing under Cordura.

The two styles they have are a normal jumper or a polo neck with a zip. When wearing the polo version and walking about in "normal" mode you can unzip the collar and avoid looking like a gay German Bauhaus exponent with a sheep fetish. Under your jacket, you can pull the zip right up and it acts as a neck warmer and seals the neck hole of your jacket rather nicely.

Another benefit of wool is that when it gets wet it stays warm, once you've expended a bit of energy shivering to warm it up.

Ask Frosty if he likes the one he got for his birthday (6 weeks ago). Have a hard time getting it off him to wash lol.

Just don't put them in the dryer as our last tenant did!!!! Lets just say out 12 year old also now likes them.

I bought one today and must say, damn good warm jersey.

The price seems good but so it should be for second hand clothing. According to Jim the jerseys belonged to the Lamb first. Which raises the concern, now that I bought the Lamb's jersey, what's the lamb got left to wear over winter?

Best woollen garment ever made is the Swandri with two layers of wool,outer and inner(not brush cotton inner),except when it gets windy,then chuck a parka over the top,swandri is a bit bulky under the cordura though.

Any woollen top is good,then maybe polyprop overtop.

Try the black shearers' singlet/t shirt as well.

They dont need anything to wear over winter - there in pieces, stacked in freezers. The wool was probly their second to last contribution to the improvement of human lifestyle...
