Sorry about not being able to make it tonight fellas, only allowed out once a week. under the thumb and all. little disappointing to see the lack of new riders at the gassy tonight when i came though, on a fine night like to night i would have thought there would be more people taking advantage of this free and very useful session.

I would have come along but my little wee girl is sick at the mo so I'm needed at home.

I deffo planning on coming along now that I finally have my wheels. Hopefully next week. It would be great to meet a few people as well as gain some much needed knowledge..

sorry i couldn't make it this week guys, my bike blew the plug at 3 as i went to leave work today and was stuck trying to start it for 2 hours, i then went to get my plug from frosty and went back to fix my bike and did it all by myself so proud, and am keeping the fouled plug as the first memento of working on my bike by myself but maybe next week guys was looking forward to it this week as a means to let out my stress by having a ride, oh well at least i got to work on my bike all fixed nao

Well that was a great night...glad I got a leave pass. Good to get some emergency braking practice in, as well as having good company at the pub before and afterwards.

Thanks for making me feel welcome. I will definitely try to get along to more NASS nights.

P.S. Good on GunnyRob for the ABS demo...even if he didn't drop the Beemer

    Nice to have you along

That ABS stuf is very cool. Wish they put it on more bikes. I gues I gotta start saving for a beemeer. probably by the time i have the money for it they will have put reverse thrusters on instead of ABS...

Oops, thanks and what I learned (I hope)

Well I had a moment last night but couldn't come along to the pub for a debrief, so here is what I THINK happened.

I was lined up wrong for the braking practise so thought I'd wiggle around to straighten up before setting off. This gives me my
Lesson #1 - I need to plan my approach earlier so as to line up better.

While doing this I was thinking about the next practise run i.e. "I need a bit more squeeze on the front and a bit less foot", etc.
Lesson #2 - focus on what I am doing RIGHT NOW not what I am going to be doing later. It is too easy to switch off and, as Richard underlined, bikes don't give a lot of margin for inattentive riders.

So I got to roughly were I want to be lined up and with about half lock still on I decide to use the front brake to stop the bike. I have read more than once that this ia a BAD IDEA but before the brain kicked in it was whoosh, thump, oh, things look different from down here.

Lesson #3 FFS don't grab the front brake in a car park manoeuvre and definitely not with some lock angling the front wheel down any kind of slope, a full top box and a fresh tankful of gas!

Richard was kind enough to tell me he's seen far more experienced bikers do it and I am hoping that is the "public drop" now out of the way and I won't do it again (ahem).

A big thank you to the kind folks that picked up my bike and checked I was OK. I have to say, if I'm going to do something daft with a group of people there to watch, you're a good bunch to choose.

Last night I thought I'd got away with it (bar a sore finger), but today I find I have a sore back and stiff neck. I think it is reminder of my age more than anything else!

I can't make it next week but I'll be back for more (practise, that is).

    Cheers - Chasio

PS Another plus for the Freewind - no damage except for a couple of minor scratches to the brake lever and the luggage rack. The bars seem to keep the plastics off the ground nicely.

    Wednesday July 15th

Frosty has very kindly made his garage available for next Wednesday.......

I will be taking a "Road Theory" evening for all of those who wish to attend.

This will not be a Defensive Driving Course type lecture but is aimed at the around town rider. Discussion will be lively and very much motorcycle orientated.

Tea, Coffee and chocolate biscuits will be supplied.

Meet at Shell Westgate at the usual time, 6.30pm to 7.00pm.

Then I will lead whoever wishes to attend to Frosties place in Henderson.

The evening is roughly planned to finish around 9pm.

    Mark

Did someone mention chocolate biscuits? I might have to take an evening out of my busy Wednesday Night schedule to be there.
