Great to see all of you who turned up to the ART day. Some cool stories were heard and sounded like most of you got what you came for and learned heaps about your bikes and your riding, and had fun.

Cheers to Greg and the team at AMCC for putting on another fantastic event and keep them coming. Share stories on wednesday hopefully.

Strangely no, but mum and dad gave me quite new toys while the police decided it is ok to have me riding a seven year old bike with 90k on the clock. Now 90k is not a lot for a BMW touring bike, but it hasn't been riden like a tourer has it. As for my poor TRX, my bad. I miss it. It wasn't the fastest bike I have ever owned, but it was the most fun.

Yeah, I had just told JK the day before that the bike was too long in the tooth and wouldn't last long.

    Cog

Last night I mentioned that from October 1st 2011 that there is no longer a 70Km/h speed restrictions for those on a learners licence, and there was some debate about it.

The change is contained in the "Land Transport (Driver Licensing) Amendment Rule 2011 (SR 2011/306)". You can read it here:
    http://www.legislation.govt.nz/regul...tml#DLM3956503

Specifically, it repeals the existing legislation with regard to the 70km/h restriction, and simply replaces it with this text (which no longer mentions any speed restriction):

Clause 16(1) is amended by revoking paragraph (d) and substituting the following paragraph:
“(d) in the case of a Class 6L licence, where the holder is riding a motorcycle, the holder—
    “(i) must—
“(A) ride an approved motorcycle; and
“(B) display on the vehicle an ‘L’ plate as specified in clause 66; and
    “(ii) must not—
“(A) ride between the hours of 10 pm and 5 am; or
“(B) use the motorcycle to tow another vehicle; or
“(C) carry another person on the motorcycle or in a sidecar attached to the motorcycle.”

So what is the "approved motorcycle"? Any cc limit?

There is seperate legislation to deal with that. The LAMS scheme has not yet been brought in, so yes, a road legal bike up to 250cc.

    Ah and find the answer...

“approved motorcycle means the make and model of any motorcycle that—

“(a) has an engine capacity of 250 cc or less, unless the Agency has prohibited the use of that make and model of motorcycle by notice published on the Agency's Internet site; or

“(b) has an engine capacity of more than 250 cc but not more than 660 cc and a power-to-weight ratio of not more than 150 kilowatts per tonne and is approved for use by the Agency by notice published on the Agency's Internet site.

If you mean you want to receive emails when there has been posts on this thread, go to settings in the top right hand side of the page, then general settings on the left and set it how you want through the drop-down menu next to "Default Thread Subscription Mode:" otherwise you are doing everything right
