    Now there is a plan, how would our newer riders go for that distance however?

    Direct is 425km. also very boring.
    via sh16 is 443.
    via dargaville/opononi is 519.

    Ah you thinking the same place as me? Waipu Pizza Barn is only 122kms from central Auckland via the short boring SH1 way.

    Yep. may as well take the car if you have to take the straight route. But i'm sure we can manage to spend very little time on SH1

    You can get from the West coast to the East coast of the North Island by being on SH1 for about 300 mts.
    And its a very nice ride with brilliant food at one end.
