yea usually its much more learning based with an easier course and more people making it, I wasn't watching most people go through so didn't think to widen the balls at all.

managed to show one guy how to balance the throttle, clutch and break though.

re no one taking to you, is a bit shit I think it was a really off night all in all.

Now I don't know how you guys normally run these things, but being a new guy attending if TSC hadn't known me, I kind of got the feeling everybody would of just stared at me the entire night which is not exactly the most friendly or welcoming environment to enter into and wouldn't have been something I would of felt like attending again. (yes I was trailering my bike and not riding so little bit different to the norm I guess)

That is a two way street - only one party has to come over to say hello. You could've come over to everyone else ....

I normally make a point of introducing myself to everyone new so they feel welcome. In your case I noticed that you weren't riding a bike, were hanging back, and was talking to someone you seemed to know off to one side. So I got the impression you just wanted to watch rather than join in.

Also those tennis balls seemed to closely spaced to me, 2 people out of 7? who attempted it were able to do it at all and one fell off (I didn't see how it happened as I had my back turned) - maybe some lead in so it gets tighter towards the end of the slalom as its aimed at learners. But no one was giving any guidance or reminders/tips on how to actually improve, couple of people were looking where there handle bars were and right in front of there bike instead of where they were wanting to go (alot of the time people don't even realise they are doing those things so keep repeating same mistake) maybe someone or a few people could be passing on constructive criticism to people?

The difficulty of the lesson is tailored based on how many times everyone has been before. All except one person has been coming along for over a year. All except one person has been to a lot of the slow riding courses. As a result, the difficulty level was increased on the night.
The one newer rider I personally spent some one on one time with. He had recently done an ACC class and spent quite a bit of the lesson time on slow riding skills. In his case I mostly gave him some extra tips to work on.

We also spent some time looking at some of the brake pads on the bikes, and identified one bike in urgent need of replacement pads.

The comments about giving guidance are noted, but most of those who attended last night had attended a lot of times, and already know full well where to look. No excuse. I guess I feel more reluctant to tell the more experienced riders what they should do. I guess I should view it more as giving them a reminder.

The one person who fell off did so because they stalled their bike while doing the slow manoeuvring. Their speed was below walking pace. We don't have it happen often, but it does happen when people are learning new skills. Just a fact of life. I would much prefer they fell off in the car park, than trying to do the same thing around a round-a-bout or in traffic.

I'm not sure when you counted, but I saw just about everyone do the exercise. Certainly more than 2 people.

It wasn't meant to be easy. I wasn't able to make it either. Doesn't mean that it wasn't a worthwhile exercise because not everyone could do it easily.

Please don't take offense to the above, not trying to have a go but you guys seem keen on improving and thats just a couple of things from an outsider looking in.

All input is helpful, although I as well saw you standing by your vehichle and talking to someone and as I have only been thrice in the last year had no idea that you did not know anyone else. I'm sorry you felt a bit on the outside, maybe you could have asked your good friend to share you around

But this is where you guys need to make the effort - Its 1 new person in a group of 8+ people someone shy is going to say fuck all and possibly not come back becuase of it.... You guys are ones who don't want to see Nass die.

Doesn't mean to say that a slalom couldn't ease in even if just first couple were little wider rather than straight into a full lock turn?

This I commend, thats great to see you are also throwing in routine inspection maintenance to the attendance.

I don't disagree about anything here, I appreciate what you guys are trying to do with it but i guess above reply comes into play, people don't realise a lot of the time they are doing something wrong and most people take Constructive Criticism well and if they don't they are not there to learn anything as they already know it all.

Never said it wasn't worthwhile, I just said it could of been eased into - like anything you warm up before a sports event, you warm up your tyres before you push them to there limits etc.

Heh, its all good I didn't feel outside, I felt like if I hadn't known anybody nobody would of made the effort to really come and talk to me unless I made the effort and If it was someone shy they possibly would of carried on driving or never come back again and they don't want nass to die so i just feel the collective group who know each other should make that effort to welcome new people....

But as I say its all observations not picking on anyone or saying its wrong how you do things this is just my perspective.

Guys, Sorry I didn't make it Wed night. I had some VP's over from India and Aust and that was that.

Grant to put this into perspective, the guys are normally very welcoming and there is a lot more instruction (Again sorry to let you guys down). Just the week before it had been discussed tha the level of riders was raising and we didn't seem to be getting new riders through as much as usual over the last year.

I suspect there are lots of reason for that but a lot of discussion was had about how to at track more and also how to cater for the more skilled riders that are there currently.

Your right because of the above it has become a tight knit group of regulars. But I think you also hit a night where it sounds like phil was on his own as far as instruction goes as us others were missing in action.

Lanky, heard about the lay down... hope your not too sore and the bike is on the fast route to being back on the road.
