Ask for a lighter GIXXER, and the folk at Suzuki will hand you the Yoshimura catalogue. The wheels that come on the light MV can be purchased for a GIXXER too, carbon fairings can be made. Not digging at the MV at all, they're awesome and I'd love one, just sayin they weight figures are irrelevent.

Also, gordon, there is NO CHANCE that one bike carries 10 kilos more fluids than the other. If it were water, (the heviest fluid your bike holds), 10 kilos is ten liters. 1 or 2 likos difference absolute max from fluid quantities I would imagine.

10 litres was just a figure i used for an example. all im am saying is, if you were drag racing for example, and you had a choice of two bikes that were indentical in every way when they were dry, but ready to race one was heavier than the other, then you would go with the lighter bike, as you would have more power to weight. im not talking about reliability or anything else.

Regarding the MV Agusta F4, it's an awesome bike, totally gorgeous and a little bit intimidating to ride, but the steering (at least on the original F4 1000S) is what I'd call 'ponderous' compared to current Jap thous.

I suspect that a lot of reviewers immediately link that in their minds with the weight difference.

Now, my 1400 weighs 30kg more, dry, than the F4, and with its new MX bars, doesn't need much beyond a particularly encouraging thought from me to flick from side to side. If you were transplanted from the saddle of a GSX1400 to the saddle of an F4 1078 and back again, you'd swear that the Suzuki was lighter.

Handling has plenty to do with geometry and suspension setup - total bike weight is only one factor.

I suspect that too much is being made of the weight difference between the F4 1078 and other superbikes, with riders who think they're feeling the weight difference actually just feeling the difference in the way the bikes are designed to handle.

Drag racing yourself? Because even if you weigh exactly the same as the dude you're racing, you aint gonna ride the same.

It's academic man, you'd ride both, and pick whichever bike floated your boat more. The 2 kilos odd difference doesn't enter into it once you're rolling.

Well, it's very pretty and all that, but one day soon I may just be blessed enough to swing a leg over a mcahine that truly murders ANY MV in terms of performance, weight, speed, looks, sheer bloody exoticness (is that a word?)

    Right here

This is of course if I'm a good boy and prove I can last a couple of laps without biffing the bike I've got

If they made it lighter we'd complain when the frame snaps

At least the trend for smaller and smaller bikes seems to have stopped.

The current batch of litre bikes are more comfortable for normal size men than they were 5 years ago.

NOBODY would get off the MV and say your fuckin whale was lighter! What the fuck is wrong with you? You say some of the dumbest shit I've ever read. So the MV turned a bit slow, (in your overwhelmingly race experienced opinion) very easily fixed by lifting the rear of the bike a few milimetres. And this is also reletive to the MV coming at corners a shit load quicker.

Why the hell did I click on "view post"? (Same principle as lookin at a train wreck I guess, I knew it'd be horrible, but couldn't look away. C'MON RICHARD:slap:
