Does anyone have any advice on a bike for my partner?

She is somewhat vertically challenged, bless her heart, and we're looking for a bike for her to ride on our weekend rides.

I was thinking of a Yamaha Virago or similar but if any one with personal experience in finding a bike suitable for our shorter halfs has some advice it will be appreciated

How vertically challenged is she? It's really the inside leg measurement plus confidence level that decides the bike.. I only have 30" inside leg (according to my jeans) but don't have a problem riding most things.
If she's also short on experience then the Virago or similar is probably a good call

Once the new laws come into effect in regard to learner licenses you will have more choice in bikes.
My wife is also short and I plan to get her a Suzuki S40 (Savage).

That's not vertically challenged!! That's tall!!! I don't even make 5ft. The Virago is a great bike!!! I will let Crashe tell you more about it's virtues. But really the best advice is to go to some bike shops and try out a variety of bikes.

We went to Mt Eden MC today and she tried a Virago on for size...height looked good but seemed kind of heavy for her...Any Virago riders with opinions?

Theres a range of bikes available for her.
Trying to think of the polite way to say this.
It ISNT the height alone ha hafta worry about its the height/width combo that stuffs people up.
Jorja is pretty VC she had a suzuki EN125 then moved onto a Scorpio.
You might also wanna look at the latest generation SR250 they look quite nice with a fairly "normal" riding position.

Virago, GN250, TU250, SR250, Hyosung there's a fair bit of choice out there that will do the job and have not heard too many bad things about any of these popular models. Sounds like you are on the right track

I don't find it too heavy and it is actually very well balanced. I weigh about 50 kgs. The 250 Virago weighs 137 kg (dry weight). It looks heaps bigger than is actually is.

I have mate who is exactly that size, she rides a kwak smoker. Was very cute when she sat on the fireblade, hehe

KR150, RG150, FXR150 will do. GN250 will do aswell. Like frosty suggested, Scorpio would be a good option too (would be my pick of the bunch cause it has a boot start )
