Engine transplant for Spada

The engine on my Spada has just kicked it. Because of the bike seems quite rare, i am struggling to find a decent engine for it. However there are a few good smashed VTR's out there. i know the VTR produces sligtly less power, lower revs and only has a 5-speed, but is it possible to transplant the engine into the spada? Any information on this topic would be a big help. Cheers

Mechanically, I'd say yes. BUT Mr Honda gets really tricky with electrics. Often you will find that something will not transfer correctly.
Had that problem with two different years of early VTs not being compatible.

Depends...VTR-type engines are not cheap for rebuilding. Even doing the camchains can run you close to a grand.

I just had the cam chains done (cost me a reasnoble amount for the auto tensioners etc...) then started to develop a noise in the top end. i thought it might have been the chains not done properly. I took off the head to hav a look, and all the hardenings had warn off the cams. u could just replace the head, but susspect an oil problem, so might have damaged mor than just the top end.

What about getting the cams reground if the hardening has come off - someone like Franklin Cams in Pukekohe?

it happened so quickly, i think it might be a problem with the oil pump, meaning i may have damaged more than just the cams. Don't want to spend money on getting it fixed and then something else go wrong

Having er "done it" a couple of times. Ive been involved in swapping spada mills into earlier vt's
You do find as mstrs says the wiring doesn't swap over and the odd pipe doesn't quite line up.
Dude I'd suggest that if all thats wrong is the hardening is gone from the cams then thats pretty much situation normal. Yep --oil hasn;t been changed enough
Get the cams reground and all will be good
