    Agv s4

These Sharp ratings are creating a few "New Helmet" threads

Anyway, I'm shopping for a new one and was originally looking at a Shoei, although a mate has an X-Eleven he imported and the wind noise is horrible (bloody comfy though). So I thought "Lets see what 5 stars are around". I don't have an Arai head, but the AGV caught me eye...

Anyone have any feedback on them? Mainly wind noise and aerodynamics as I can test comfort in the shop.

Sorry to hijack your thread but, wait wait.
how much is the s-4 and stealth alike?
i mean i guess i cant say that if the sharp has 5 stars on s-4 its not the same on the stealth - or are there any actual different materials used?

Wind noise, yes but not too bad, I read somewhere that they're designed for naked bikes & I'm very impressed with the lack of buffeting with this lid. Visor pretty good for not fogging & very comfortable, probably done 4000k's in it so far. Only gripe is that it's not a D fastening system which needs adjusting regularly to keep it tight.

As far as I know, the S4 and Stealth have the same shell. The S4 is just the "next gen" so to speak. So stealth should be 5 star also.... making the ones on Trademe for $249 look rather nice!

Hrmmm, having to adjust it frequently would piss me off enough to probably not buy one. Need to have decent look at them.

As a three-time AGV owner, and now Shoei XR-1000 owner, I'd much rather have a Shoei. It feels lighter, has better visibility (larger visor cutout), and aerodynamics, and better construction. The AGV X-Vent I last owned was miles better than any helmet I'd every owned. But when I pulled the (removable) lining out, I was unimpressed with the construction. Not very wonderful...
    Wind noise?
    Psssshaw!!
The Shoi is noisier as far as ambient noise goes (probably because the AGV was so tight, and had a concrete lining), but the Shoei is much quieter for wind noise.
The only areas the AGVs are better are price, and the visors - their tinted/mirrored visors are much better than any Shoei offering, and much cheaper too.
    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.

    Or maybe not...

    Dunno really....

Yeah it does piss me off, the stealth has D's & a local shop has them heavily discounted, if you like red or blue graphics that is. Once you get the visor mechanism sorted they're a piece of piss to take off & put back on.

What sorta visor mechanism izzzit, Mister? Coverplate, or flick the lever under the visor to get it off?
That's another plus for AGVs - the visor doofers (tecnical term) are good.

No cover plate, hard to explain, lift visor up,flick lever on LHS,LHS comes out, close visor & RHS comes out. Better IMHO than similar Shark I replaced it with or HJC. Doesn't come adrift like the Shark tended to do

Yea I just got a stealth from Waikato Yamaha on Trademe for $249. Red/Black/White graphic.

Was in motomail today to have a look at them. The S4 and the Stealth are the same lid just with different vents a the D clamp on the Stealth.

Tried on a few Shoei's but since the AGV is half price on trademe it was a no brainer really. Will just wear some plugs if the noise is too much.

Not hard to explain at all - it's the same mechanism as the X-Vent.

$249 is a good price for a helmet - I hope you're happy with it.

Especially when RRP is $499 - $549 depending on the graphic

I had a look on TardMe - the specs etc make this look like it's probably the replacement for the X-Vent, or maybe one level down from that (X-Vent was tri-composite shell).
I'm surprised the tinted visors are $135 - they were only around $65ish last time I priced one. Shoei visors (which I thought were dear!) are $86, IIRC.
    ... and that's what I think.

Yea, I was also told the shell is identical the S4 and the S4 was derived from the stealth so perhaps they've moved through the gens quite quickly.

I did think $135 was a bit seem, but considering I got the Helmet so cheap I wasn't too bothered.

just passed my learners today ! woot
so ive been around trying all the gear i can before buying, found that arai just doesnt fit me snug ... which is a good thing since its so expensive
tried agv, good visor - good price - good safety - shape abit akward as my lips can touch the front if i "kiss it" - which i find to be extremely annoying as hot breath gets reflected off the front back onto ur face aswell as the constant wish to push the helm further forward with ur lips .... dont ask me why...
sad news is - shark is the same, well not the RSR2 (cant afford anyways), but the S800 and S650 :P
so shoei is the only one left, and guess what - its fits very nice, comfortable, only shit is - visor fogs up could always get pinlock, wierdly enough i wear a large unlike all other brands (im a xl, 60.8 around the head)

so now im stuck trying to decide if i should just get a shark/agv or a shoei - and if i get a shoei, should i just get a xr1000 or just keep to basics with a raid 2 ...

again hjacking but didnt want to open another thread hehe.

...or you could get a breath guard, or coat the inside of the visor with CatCrap, or use the "open yer crack a crack" feature, or all three.
    Or ride holding your breath?
My Shoei seemed prone to fogging up when I got it, until I adjusted the visor mechanism and polished the inside of the visor.
