just passed my learners today ! woot
so ive been around trying all the gear i can before buying, found that arai just doesnt fit me snug ... which is a good thing since its so expensive
tried agv, good visor - good price - good safety - shape abit akward as my lips can touch the front if i "kiss it" - which i find to be extremely annoying as hot breath gets reflected off the front back onto ur face aswell as the constant wish to push the helm further forward with ur lips .... dont ask me why...
sad news is - shark is the same, well not the RSR2 (cant afford anyways), but the S800 and S650 :P
so shoei is the only one left, and guess what - its fits very nice, comfortable, only shit is - visor fogs up could always get pinlock, wierdly enough i wear a large unlike all other brands (im a xl, 60.8 around the head)

so now im stuck trying to decide if i should just get a shark/agv or a shoei - and if i get a shoei, should i just get a xr1000 or just keep to basics with a raid 2 ...

Grats on the learners! One thing I've found is you either have an Arai head or a Shoei, which removes some of the "Which Helmet" choices...

If your going for a Shoei then I would suggest a Raid II or X-Spirit. The XR-1000 sits in the middle price-wise, but isn't really worth the extra money over the raid II. Also, the XR-1000 scored 3 stars on the sharp test, whereas the Raid and Spirit were 4 stars.

If money isn't such an option I would go with Shoei + breath guard + hush kit. I went for the cheaper AGV on trademe (http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Sear...00&type=Search) as I just have spent a crap load of money on a new bike, and it was the best value for money while still being a decent upgrade from my current KBC one.

That's no longer the case.
Both Shoei and Arai realised they were missing out on customers, so make more than one shell shape. The Arai Corsair, f'rexample, is the same shell shape as the XR1000 (and presumably some other models).

Ah, good on them! I only ever tried one Arai lid, and the guy in the shop said. "Yea, you've got a Shoei head"
