You can get a number of different styles of safety vest from the Protector Safety stores. There are four stores around Auckland, I went to the one in Rosebank Road, Avondale. Just try them on over your riding gear as they are large sizings.

I also noticed recently that Mitre10 in Onehunga stocks safety vests.

It's a good idea - I have a "Rainbird" waterproof parka that was bought from Cory's Electrical (same group of companys as Mastertrade, Plumbing World etc). It has a zip-out removable vest that is reversible - fleece on one side and fluoro on the other. The fluoro side is made of the same material as the jacket outer shell and is therefore waterproof as well. This gives an extra waterproof layer outside, and keeps a bit more wind out too. I find it exceptionally good for extra warmth and waterproofness. I deliberately got a size larger than required so it fits over my Cordura jacket.

The outer shell on its own packs down quite small and is easily carried. This allows me to use the outer jacket over the top of my leather jacket when I using that
