    F@%kin' computers

Can anyone suggest something to try to get my C drive draw open? When I press the button there's noises suggesting it wants to open and the light starts flashing but no luck.

Is it a CD or DVD drive?

If so, there should be a pinhole opening somewhere around the tray - stick an unfolded paperclip into it and push, and it should pop open.

If you're talking about a CD/DVDROM drive then there should be a little hole somewhere on the front face. Bend a paper clip straight and carefully push in through the hole to manually release the drive platter.

If it's a hard drive draw on a laptop then you need to shut it down first. There may also be a couple of screws you need to remove before the drive will drop out.

Pussy files for future reference... just checked my hard drive, there IS a small hole a paperclip will fit in. Thanks

No no, it's his C drive he wants open! You need a set of jeweller's screw drivers for that - remove the top case and ignore the "Do not open" sticker. Then move the arm out of the way and carefully remove the shiney metal discs (don't get your finger prints on them!)...

... and then you'd have to slather it with a topical ointment to get rid of the rash.
And then the drive would be fookted.
    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.

    Or maybe not...

Correct! You could write a comprehensive list of my computer knowledge on the back of a postage stamp with a carpenter's pencil...

Ok, now when I close the draw with the disc in, the draw just automatically opens again.

(Or should I just set these valve clearances to whatever the fuck I feel like?)

Try twiddling the paperclip in the hole a bit to free the release catch.

Otherwise, congratulations, you need a new CD drive. You can probably get one at the local computer shop for about $30.

    D'Oh! D'Oh!!
You missed an opportunity for some smartarse comments to Katman about responsible computer operating and stuff.
I'd write summat, but I'm all hyped up on a double-shot flat white and double choc muffin
And keyboard dyslexia has kicked in (but you wouldn't know it because of careful editing).
