3G is the technology that the new iPhones (and countless other phones before it) use. Its a wireless data transport technology that allows for higher speeds than the previous technologies. Telecom should have their new network setup around nov this year I believe.

Apple seems to have pulled the iPhone from Canada because the carrier there was screwing the public with its expensive plans. Wonder if anyone at apple is looking in this direction (at Vodafone) - probably not, too small a market to worry about.

Its nothing new. If i was paying $6000 for a phone i'd want technology that i've never seen before.

Those screen flipping thing came out YEARS ago. same with zooming and touch screens. NEXT
Then I could get a Kb Tshirt, move to Timaru and become a full time crossdressing faggot

Too true. The iPhone is made up of lots of old tech in a swish package put together by the design wizards at Apple. Ok, it has some new bits, like their multi-touch interface, etc... but GPS? Done. 3G? Done. Touch screen? Done. Media? Done... etc etc.

Now, the new Blackberry "touch" or Windows Mobile 7 devices have my attention (for now).

The carriers' charges are high because of what they have to pay apple.

I'll be very surprised if telecom have theirs running by november, seeing as they haven't got any sites up and running yet.

If they're not careful, NZC will have their network running first.

So there's no point in getting an iPhone you may as well just buy an iTouch. It looks cool and does cool stuff and there's no on going costs.

I don't see why everyone is moaning about. The phone I have was $1100 to buy outright. On a plan I got it for $169. 24 month contract. $40 month with no txts, no data, no GPS, crap MP3 player, no internet browser.

Remember that you're Hire Purchasing the phone with a deposit ($199 in this case) and paying the monthly repayments and the data, txt, minutes, etc monthly rate.

If it's too much don't buy it. Do you whine about the cost of Ducatis before you buy a GSXR too?

And IMHO even that is sheer extravagance.

If I was GIVEN an iPhone (well it's not like I'm ever going to BUY one) I'd swap it for something useful - like more tassles for my Harley or a flash V8 badge foor my hot-rod or....

To me a phone you can use as a phone or to txt is all you need - and mine was free and I use about $20 worth of time every two+ months..

Because in the age of the internet people can compare prices internationally, and this raises questions about why some places are so much cheaper than others. Below is a pretty good comparison chart. Guess which is the only country (on the chart) with every value being "worse than average":

It doesnt bother me either though, I was never going to buy one as I have a work phone. There's just quite a few people at work who are apple fanboys, so this info keeps flying around the office.
