    CBR600

For those of you who were wondering what it looks like.

I think it's a pretty good streetfighter meself. Just needs a matt black paintjob.

Dropping the front fairing and replacing the headlight with maybe a twin round headlight setup would improve it, IMO. But its a start. Just looks too much like you've only taken off the bottom fairing because of damage etc.

I've got some raceglass to pick up from TSS, so that's remedied - sorry it was an off-hand comment.

I'd just like to point out that I haven't crashed this CBR (unlike the ex-TRX), and the fairing lowers weren't damaged in a crash. The fairing lugs themselves went brittle and snapped off. The fairing lowers departed the bike at "some speed", and the side covers started slapping the hell out of my inner thighs as they are held in place by a keylock to the fairing lowers.

    Ouch he said.

In the last 18 months this bike has had the following list of stuff done:

    Steering head bearing
    Forkseals
    front and rear wheel bearings
    Sprocket carrier bearing
    Replaced engine mount studs
Replaced rear shock with CBR600F2 shock that had done 10,000kms
Two sets of plugs, and two oil changes.
Two sets of tyres in 12,000km (Metzler ME33 Comp K front, Me1 Comp K rear - bloody soft but super sticky)
Fuel tap cleaned out and reserve circuit removed (corroded shut)
    Carbs cleaned twice
Neptune pipe to replace the collapsed original.

It is actually fun to ride, more than I expected it would be, and it has more poke than you'd think.

The engine is tight as a nut and doesn't smoke, either under hard acceleration, or during decceleration.

Brake lines probably need replacing, but pass WOF muster.

Hmmm. Looks like you spent all the three hours we got today when it wasn't raining outside shining up that baby Jim.

Hopefully you can get the fairing lowers sorted then that bike will be pristine.

To continue sounding like the broken record that I am, then you can just ride it around and keep that money from the insurance company until you find the perfect bike, or until Wellington Motorcycles see sense and discount that XB9S down to $7995.

    Jimmy - you listening?
And I to my motorcycle parked like the soul of the junkyard. Restored, a bicycle fleshed with power, and tore off. Up Highway 106 continually drunk on the wind in my mouth. Wringing the handlebar for speed, wild to be wreckage forever.

Ya know what would happen if I did that? We need some new curtains, we need a new bedroom suite for the kids, we need to do the bathroom, etc, etc, etc.

As soon as the money comes in, I'm slapping cash on a bike.

    Wise man.

The cibby looks fun, but not two years worth of fun. Get what you can while you can.

Heh heh... I saved up a whole lot of cash and was intending to buy an R1... Then we had a baby and redid the bathroom... the Mrs demanded more and more stuff be done until it was a freaking strip it all and rebuild, push a wall out, replumb, might as well do the laundry while you're in there kind of thing.

In the end I couldn't afford a bike... Sure I appreciate having a nice bathroom... but sitting in the bath with your helmet on making brrrm noises wasn't that cool.

Eventually I got a ZXR750 and forgot all about it.

    Sedge.

Open a bank account in your name, hidden away in an offshore account, don't let 'er in doors know about it OR just give it to the local bike shop for safe keeping, just ask WT he will hold it for you . . . .

Could have been worse. Could have worn your leathers, gloves and boots.

yeah - I'm kind of unfair to the old girl. I went back and forwards to Tauranga every 3 weeks or so during the middle 6 months of 2002, through rain, hail, snow, and blistering heat so I could see my Grandmother as her health declined.

    It never missed a beat.

Trashy doesn't sell anything remotely in my price range ever!

The idea had merit though. Might "invest" in TSS.

    Hi Jim.

From another CBR 600 owner - forgive them . We know what they are capable of.
I ride a later model but they are all the same - VERY UNDER RATED.

Unless you are a CBR owner, you don't know how they GO when you want them to.

For the weight to power ratio - they excell!

I know that the CBR has out ridden a Kawasaki ZX12R on a ride with lots of corners., much to the zx12R owner's amazement.(By the way, the CBR owner now has a ZX12R)

And don't let anyone else tell you otherwise about your bike!

Keep the rubber to the road!:
