Cleaning carbs

I got my bike put on the ol' dyno the other day and it registered a frustrating 28hp. It was suggested that the way to increase this was to clean the carbs. I was then told that this would cost somewhere between 2-300 bucks. Is this an average price? Also, how hard is it to do the job yourself?

Clean the carbs would produce heaps more H/P???

Hmm... There is heaps of work that can be done to carbies (jetting, balancing, replacing worn parts, modifying) to give more HP's. Never heard cleaning them is gonna do more then:

1. Make them look nice
2. Get rid of dirt from all around.
3. Get a carby that does not work (clogged jets) to work again.

And if they were that dirty that it hindered the performance, then by taking them apart and doing a basic clean up your self will surely sort that out? Just make sure you write down the settings of all jets etc.

cleaning them out will at least tell you that they are all good (or not). easy enough to do provided you are methodical and have some tools and workspace. If you are uneasy about doing it yourself perhaps you know someone with some experience who can help you out a bit.
