I'd like to find the original motor out of an FXR so that it's still eligible for buckets, so I can have a bit of fun out there when I'm not riding my 125

Shineray shocks are shite .the electrics are shite but the engine hangs in there no worries. --they seem to be XL125 engines.

    FXR150:
    Engine
    Displacement/Type:
147 cc, Oil cooled, Single cylinder, 4-stroke
    Bore x Stroke:
    62 x 48,8
    Compression ratio:
    10.7:1
    Fuel system:
    Mikuni BS2955
    Ignition:
    CDI

    Horsepower? Maybe 14ish?

    XL125R:
    Engine
    Displacement/Type:
124 cc, Air cooled, Single cylinder, 4-stroke
    Bore x Stroke:
    56,5 x 49,5
    Power:
    13 hp (9.5 kW) @ 9500 rpm
    Torque:
    10 Nm @ 8000 rpm

So not bad assuming the chinese one is the same as the '86 XL R...
    Prob isn't...
The FXR motor would go straight in an FXR and have more overall power potential.

The shineray would be lighter, not too hard to adapt and cheap as to buy new. It also has less (not un) proven reliability.

That makes the FXR the first pick in my books, failing finding an FXR motor for a decent price the shineray could be a good option.

For a fresh start in another bike the shinery could be better but if it is to go into an FXR...

Now the newer XL125 V-twin... that would be the shiz!

    It's actually an XL125V Varadero.
    Sold in Europe.

Displacement: 125.00 ccm (7.63 cubic inches)
    Engine type: V2
    Stroke: 4
    Power: 14.75 HP (10.8 kW)) @ 11000 RPM
    Torque: 10.50 Nm (1.1 kgf-m or 7.7 ft.lbs) @ 8500 RPM
    Compression: 11.8:1
    Bore x stroke: 42.0 x 45.0 mm (1.7 x 1.8 inches)
    Fuel system: Carburettor. 22mm PD-type
    Valves per cylinder: 2
    Fuel control: SOHC
Ignition: Dual digital transistorised with electronic advance
    Starter: Electric
    Cooling system: Liquid
    Gearbox: 5-speed
    Transmission type
    final drive: Chain
Clutch: Wet, multiplate with coil springs

Redlines at 12,000rpm. Don't think it would be that awesome an engine, when you consider it's an undersquare design and only SOHC and also bearing in mind that even the Loncin 150 has the same horsies but most likely lighter.
I think the FXR or CBR150 engine would be a lot better.

    Just my 2c worth

there were two FXR engines on trademe for the past month, not looked this week, he wanted to much for them and i think it was an exchange service, if you can find the listings offer him 500 for 1 engine, they been listed for ages now... so if i was him i would take that offer. worth a try!!
