Yeah, I managed to stand on someone last night :S However, I am getting good at head checking when I'm moving my partner around the floor... it's a bit like riding a bike in that respect

Post here if you're coming the Chch, we'll go for a boogy

generally dancing is a pretty practice heavy sport. you gotta practice on your own and practice with others and as many different people as will let you dance with them if you wanna get to competition level that is... now, I never did the big leagues in ballroom and latin, but in ballet I did many many comps (and my thighs still show the evidence from years of toil! oh and hockey ... lol) and they were wonderful, though I found that I had to stretch myself to the absolute limit in order to get anywhere. Meaning muscle stretching ANd stretching my energy to practice as much as I could!

Little Petal and myself train five nights a week these days (which is down from our previous six nights a week) for Ballroom comps. If ya don't put in the time, you don't get the benefit of all those expensive lessons you pay for. (Dancing has to be the most expensive way of showing off known to mankind.....). It also has the benefit of keeping the lard off my arse.......amongst others...

lol, i started dancing (as in structured dancing, not just bloopy dancing) when I was about 2 yars old. that was ballet hehe, it used to be my favorite passtime! now that I've moved here (abotu 8 years ago now lol) I stopped my ballet and went onto partner stuff. Wouldn't mind doing some solo stuff either though.

Yeah, I'd agree with that! It's just for fun for me though Maybe I'd get good enough to do the odd performance now and then, but that seems unlikely

    Very nice!

Actually, the price is one of the things I like... a year of salsa lessons costs less than a carbon fibre wheel for my bike!

Haven't tried any ballroom, but I am looking around for a partner for Argentine Tango. I'll have to quit my Saturday job though, lessons are Saturday morning, so only really interested in taking it up with someone who would be serious about getting good.

true, sounds like fun it is something that you have to be interested in to do generally. otherwise there's no passion and it takes far longer to get ANYWHERE with dancing if you're a sulking sally about it.

What I love about Ballroom is the experience of "flight"...when it all turns weightless, when you and your partner become one moving flowing flying entity...no effort is involved, it just flows...bit like blasting through a sweeping corner on the bike with the throttle open and the tyre biting into the tarmac...
Only trouble is, the experience is not that common - we reckon that for every year of practice we do, we get two minutes of "flight"....sigh....

We used to do Latin as well but gave it away to concentrate on our other disciplines - Ballroom and New Vogue. Hard to be on top of three disciplines...
Besides, when the teachers get at you all the fun goes out the window....and it becomes W.O.R.K...
Actually we do a little Latin now and then - just for fun....
