RGV250 Power Valves

This RGV i scored has a bit of a checkered past service wise, so although it goes I decided a strip down was in order. Lucky I did because the right cylinder power valve was full (properly full) of water and oil, and the left cylinder PV the last "mechanic" stripped the thread off of the screw that retains the springs to push the valves back against the piston, not a pretty sight :disapint:.

Now the bits I need help with:

Can I replace the PV pins with a solid pin that has less chance of breaking? (I've read the stories)

I want some new springs for the PV's, how do I get the tensile stregth of the old ones to match them up with something from a spring shop?

Can I make a homemade race kit PV cover? (drill and tap) cover is cast so might be a bit dodgy.

Where are the cheapest parts for RGV's sourced, I need exhaust gaskets and possibly other new bits.

Gill at Bikes N' Bits up your way used to be able to have them reconditioned. The cover itself does nothing except keep the oil and shit in.

The current PV pin is 4mm, you can drill this out to 8mm (i think

that or its 2mm-4mm) and put a new pin in meaning you dont ever have to worry about it dropping.

PM ktulu he has some (read lots) RGV parts.... otherwise Suzuki Dealer (its better to get the exhaust gaskets brand new, and warning there are three of them

)

Should be sweet on the cover, as long as its sealed properly....

Yes, but carefully check the condition of your current ones. If they are ok, it might save quite a big job.

any old spring that is similar should do. It's just needed to keep the middle slide in situ

Nah, drill and tap is fine. D.I.Y. stuff can be fun though...
If you are into D.I.Y. try some rearsets. I've just done a set. Much cheaper than buying second hand..

What gaskets do you need?
I make my own (apart from head/base). I can send templates, or you can just trace the old ones.
And it was full of water? Is this a leak from a gasket? cCraked something? Is the gearbox/crank OK?

I have a shitload of RGV parts if you're interested in some stuff man, got a few boxes in the garage plus a couple of bikes.

Just had my powervalves reconditioned, 4mm to 8mm I think was the pin change, ray clee did the work so I'm not sure of the details.

Send me a PM if you want to look at some stuff, looking to get rid of it all in the next few months

MOD for RGV Powervalves
I have modified my powervalves similar to the UK site. Basically I replace the roll pin with some solid steel pins 4mm diameter with 10mm diameter heads. Now I sleep easy knowing the PW Valves a'rnt about to drop into the cylinder.
I'm a CNC machinist and make all my own. Willing to help anyone out who wants some made for them . PM me
