    Failing to keep left...

Well... I didn't know this, but apparently failing to drive as far left as possible in your lane is punishable by $150 AND 20 demerits... Just got my warning letter to say I have way too many points sigh.

What does this teach me... well, not a lot apart from 1. get a radar detector (twice at 12ks over, once in a passing lane, once in my own street, heh heh, don't ask ) and 2. Watch out when you're filtering, most cops don't mind, some do, you can't tell from the outside, maybe they should have a sign.

Ah well... Be a crummy way to lose your license if it's quota time and they just have to give you a ticket for filtering in stopped traffic. I know, you can argue it's legal but the ticket will read failing to keep left and if you are overtaking someone in their lane you are failing to keep left.

    Arse...

    Bollocks.

Assuming you indicate correctly and don't break the speed limit, overtaking someone within the same lane is legal.

While doing it, you follow the law by not going any further out to the right than you need to.

Did you actually *get* a ticket for doing this?

I agree with JR ....I have had this argument with a cop before ... to be filtering legally you have to be in the same lane as what you are passing with your right hand indicator on. Just don't be going too fast and you are OK ...If you are doing the filtering in the right hand lane but on the left side you ARE breaking thelaw by under-taking ....

Ah, I'm just stirring... I deserve all the tickets I've got... Was reading what 'failing to keep left' actually meant on the LTSA site.

Heh heh, I got failing to keep left for overtaking a mufti cop where he thought I didn't have 100m visibility, I overtook in a flash. I said 'There was plenty of visibility', when the overtake was over I still had plenty of room and it was made easier by the fact that he was doing 60 in a 100k area. He said 'that'll be careless driving then'. I said, 'eep, you're right, not enough visibility for sure'. 'That'll be failing to keep left then'. 'Yup'

Sedge. And stop talking about me.

Actually, it was a Maori dude, I see him around occasionally, usually in a mufti, he's OK, he normally nods and waves me through when I'm splitting etc... I think he realises that people respond much much better to 'don't be a cock, do it safely and it's not a problem' rather than the 'we've drawn a line in the sand, so here's your ticket for 11k over' quote most of the HPs seem to have these days. (He's also a biker )

Why can't more HPs be like this ? I guess it's the same anywhere, there are good people and crap people, you never know.
