So, it's ok to break the rules if you've been breaking them for years? It was the Auditor General who shut down that scam, or do you forget that reality?

Thanks to that and the EFA the lefties are just about broke, so excuse me if I have a bit of a Nelson Muntz moment.

That's a difficult question for me to answer in all honesty. If National needed a coalition partner to govern, I'd grudgingly support it simply to see Labour out of office. However, it really pisses me off to see the minor parties happily prostitute themselves by hitching to whatever party is in power - what price integrity then? A sort of Tim Shadbolt mentality: " I don't care as long as I'm there". Sorry, no easy answer on that one and the next few months are going to be very interesting.

MMP works exactly opposite to that, the tail wags the dog most of the time. Exhibit A: Winston Peters

The only downside I find in Labour losing this time is that they got to govern during a period of sustained economic growth and had the benefit of high revenues to spend willy nilly - and then take all the credit. They seemed to have little to do with actually helping the economy itself - it ran itself quite happily as people got on with the business of making money in good times.

I'd almost like to see them squirm and sweat over the next term as the economy moves into this recession and struggles with job losses, company failures, loss of revenue, spending cuts etc. Otherwise they will just sit back and blame National, who may have to make tough decisions and look like the bad guy this timearound, just as Labour did prior under the "Rogernomics" reform period.
This is the type of rhetoric that is usually trotted out after National has been in charge for a while.
'The reason the economy is doing so badly is a cyclical thuing. It goes up and it goes down. Labour have just been lucky they were in when it was on an up cycle.'
The fact that this has happened 100% now makes me think we should stick with the lucky party.

Where do civil servants get their money from? The government!

Where does the government get it's money from? The taxpayers!

The reality is that civil servants don't pay any taxes.

Tax is stolen from real producers to pay for the civil servants!

The government withholds some of that money and calls it "tax"! (what a lot of bullshit)

They only got it from taxing the real income earners. (wealth providers)

civil servants don't produce any wealth so how can they be taxed...?

It is just a lot of politically induced gobbledygook to keep the sheeple confused. Think about it! John.

    Neither party will deliver

    • Getting rid of the police's focus on speeding fines
    • Remove the issue of proving your innocence in court costing time and money - we're really guilty until proven innocent.
    • Increased hospital staff, remove doctors fees period.
    • More power (electricity) through more REAL power stations (not wind)

The economy would have been better off if they had not been involved at all. Consider all of the increased paperwork, regulation and bureaucracy that has been introduced during their time. Shit, WW2 was shorter than the reign of the Looney Labourite Sect.

Couldn't agree more! I think half of Wellington works for the government and its plethora of departments and ministries... lots of new and fancy govt agency buildings up here too. If national get in and work to make the red-tape workers more efficient there will be a gult of commercial properties up for lease given oversupply from developers and the fall in private commercial leases.

As I recall (and don't quote me..) but a number of years ago around 40% of the wellington workforce were civil servants shuffling paper. Given the huge growth in these parasites, as witnessed by the Wellington building boom, I suspect it is over half.
Having priced a few of these, they don't stint the goodies for the top brass in the fitouts either.

sheez John, how come your right - again?

I've been listening closely to the language used over the last few days, and the speculation about hidden agendas etc for the Nats. All of it appears to come from the "journalists" (and I use the word reluctantly!).

Just take a little time and listen to the extra words chucked into the sentences.

The other parties must be shitting themselves that no one has recorded their piss up / private conversations and that gets into the public domain. But then again probably not, cos which "journalists" (and I use the work reluctantly again) would "expose" that?

Could you guys please explain me something? Why is that we are driving the Labor out of the office and yet wish Americans to elect a person who would make Helen Clark look like something between Abe Lincoln and king Solomon? Are we hypocrites or just evil?
"People are stupid ... almost anyone will believe almost anything. Because people are stupid, they will believe a lie because they want to believe it's true, or because they are afraid it might be true. People's heads are full of knowledge, facts, and beliefs, and most of it is false, yet they think it all true ... they can only rarely tell the difference between a lie and the truth, and yet they are confident they can, and so all are easier to fool." -- Wizard's First Rule

This is impossible. The "We stand for policies not mud slinging and we wish to improve the lot of the average New Zealand resident and not just get elected to inflate our own ego party" doesn't have any representatives standing in this election
