    Starting racing, what to do?

Hi, I am planning to do some racing this year on my R6. I am living in Auckland so would keep it local (Pukekohe, Taupo) what is my best route to get started and any general advise to get me going...
    Thanks

Good luck with your racing, and look forward to reading all about it on here soon.

Are you wanting to do Clubmans or Supersports?

Are you still going to ride it on the road?

First thing you need to do is get your race licence, so you need to get in touch with AMCC and PMCC to get that sorted first of all.

also, check this site out http://www.visordown.co.nz/ it's racers only so they'll all know how to get started.

Don't know the difference between clubmans & supersports. I'm guessing clubman is a bit less serious so probebly thats the one for me!
I will heading off to AMCC on thursday to sort the license out and hopefully get some more info.
I was planning on making the R6 into a track only bike while racing and then returning it to road use, but we'll see how that goes...

Personally if I was you and was only planning to use your bike as a track bike I would sell it and buy a ex race bike. This will end up lots cheaper in the long run as will have everything done to it. Otherwise depending on how serious you want to get you'll be buying race fairings, suspension upgrades, exhaust system, dynoing, race brake pads, spare wheels etc. the list goes on ...

I'd suggest a few tracks days first (if you haven't done them already). Also don't race your R6 unless it is expendable and not the end of the world if it were to turn into an engine stand.

Read the thread that frosty started in the racing section.

Doing the same thing myself. Ive done several trackdays already & have decided to start off in clubmans first, on my road bike.Partly because in clubmans youre racing all sorts of bikes & I "maybe" wont come last.
Clubmans seems to be the recommended class for newbies...though Im sure if youre keen enough you could mix it up with the serious 6hundy boys, for me Im just a tad concerned about getting in thier way,at this stage.
If you want to use your roadbike ,go for it. Ive just put the rego on hold on mine & she's presently spread all over the lounge floor being prepped...
Another good site is R6Messagenet.com which has a plethora of info on all things R6... Good luck!!!

I race my road bike in clubman's, I ride it to the track. There is a minor amount of work to meet safety requirements. Clubman's is great to get a taste , there are plenty of different bikes (mines a Hornet 900) your R6 will be pretty competitive bog standard. As previously mentioned - do a couple of track days and then give it a whirl. It is shit hot fun !!!!

Be warned - you could trash your bike, or worse you could get addicted, then you can really spend a shit load of money :-)

    Go for it

Thanks for all the help. Buying a race bike may be the next step, but I've done a few trackdays and can run in the top half of the fast group so I fiqured doing a couple of races is the next step to see if I'm man enough and get it out of my system or maybe the start of something...
Sounds like clubmans will be my first step.
I plan to put race fairings & sticky road tyres on. I have an exhaust to go on and will set that up with a PCIII on the dyno, but other than that the only thing slowing it down will be me!
So to re-cap... I get a race licence, enter a clubman race, turn up and race. Sounds easy, why didn't I do this sooner.

Because it just took you a while to realize that road riding gets a bit gay what with all the cages, trucks, campervans, cops, gravel etc etc
