To smoke or not to smoke?

    I love polls

So here's one ive not seen for a while. Be interesting how many of this community smoke, seeing that we are already well versed with risk taking n all

So how many of you smoke?

    Are you happy smoking?

Ever tried to give up at any stage? Successfully?
To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and to endure the betrayal of false friends. To appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition; to know that even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded

Oh I've answered this one before - one of my favourite subjects in fact.

May 2006 - Decided "I want to ride a motorbike coz I'm sick of rising fuel prices and Auckland traffic jams."

Looked at cost of motorcylcle purchase....then looked at cost of loan to cover cost of motorcycle purchase plus gear...looked at bank account looked at weekly expenditure for cigarettes...looked at loan repayments again....same amount! Bought Allen Carr book, quit smoking, bought bike, sat tests got learner licence and away I went!

Told myself if I ever started smoking again I would sell the bike. Love the bike too much never smoked since nor even had a craving that I remember.

My theory is that you have to give up (at least) twice. You have to find out how easy it is to fall off the wagon and that "just one" means just thousands more.

I gave up in November 1989 when my 1st daughter was born, didnt want to smoke around my new baby. That lasted six years, I was playing touch and indoor cricket and we used to play pool and have a few drinks afterwards, I was asked to hold a smoke while a mate palyed a shot. I had a puff and that was enough for me to buy a packet the next day. Smoking 'CAN' cause cancer, dosen't always. I met a lady the other day, she is her 80's and has been smoking since she was 17. My grandfather smoked all his life, he lived till about 86....yes I still smoke, we dont smoke in the house or in the car.

I've smoked a grand total of three cigarettes. I don't see the appeal, just seems such a dumb habbit to take up.

Cigars taste nice, but I'm not too keen on mouth cancer either.

The excuses of these smokers sounds like a helmet thread on an American forum - sure it's dangerous, but there is no proof that it can kill you,I've been riding without a helmet for 30 years etc etc etc.

Never smoked and never even thought about doing so - and I grew up in the era when everyone smoked, everyone.
