WTF is this little sea creature?

My wife and I were walking along the beach (Army Bay - Shakespears Park - Whangaparaoa) and saw two of these little creatures, no longer than 5 cm but beautifully decorated. Only problem is we cannot find out exactly what they are!

    Does anyone have any ideas?

was it alive? it looks like one of those fish/slug type things that live right at the bottom of the really deep oceans....

If things are going badly in our circumstances, the answer to what is happening to us outwardly is more often than not found in the mirror.

Nudibranches are pretty cool when you're diving - at least they don't fuck off in a hurry and you can take your time admiring them. Some of them are beautifully coloured like the ones you just found - others are rather dull sausage looking things just lying on the bottom.

Pretty - but not nearly as much fun as an octopus

That's a sea slug. Be careful, it is extremely poisonous.
