I wouldn't be worried if I was at home, but this is NZ - I don't fancy being stuck indoors in a power outage with a stir-crazy 2-yr old that wants his Jungle Book DVD!

Hoping it's not going to be as bad as they are forecasting, coz I've just found that you can't get the lid off the top of our toilet, so can't even do a manual flush using a bucket of water! (i'm therefore banning baked beans until the storm passes)

It looks like it will be down to us some time during the night! Bloody typical, cant come during daylight hours, that would be too easy.

Preparations here are nothing more than what we already have in place. A gas heater, candles and lanterns, we have gas on so cooking/hot drinks are no problem. We have food.

Coromandel is taking a hiding. A lot of small branches laying in the garden, but nothing big yet as we're partially sheltered from the current wind direction. The harbour is white all over. Apart from a leak in one of our window frames, the only casualty is a big Morris and James pot on our deck which got blown over. I wouldn't have believed it possible!

Very little wind here in Titirangi, but it's raining like it's never gonna rain again.

I popped down to Piha beach this morning when it was only light showers, the waves are riled up. Wouldn't mind bringing a deck chair and an umbrella and watching the show.

Warkworth, it is just an ordinary, shitty, winters day here at the moment. We have wind and rain, it is a bit cold, but the barometer is dropping quite fast. If the forecast pressures are correct then it will be one hell of a storm.

I have to go out in a moment to post a letter, will check in on my elderly neighbours on my way back and make sure they are all ready. Last winter during that big storm we had they had no way of heating food or water, i used to go make them pots of tea...LOL

I am actually more worried about my Mother in Thames, she is on her own and is not well. She relies on power for heating and her life link alarm. Will ring her in a moment to see how she is faring.

I'm willing to predict this will be another of those 'boy who cried wolf' scenarios. Yeah, a bit of rain and some wind - hardly a big deal.
If it wasn't for a concise set of rules, we might have to resort to common sense!
