Indian scientists develop hydrogen motorcycle

Indian scientists have built a hydrogen fuel-cell motorcycle which will soon be tested in Delhi, according to the Indian Ministry of Non-Conventional Energy.

Dr S K Chopra, senior advisor said there was an urgent need to move towards cleaner energy resources and technologies, Chopra said this would reduce environmental pollution and promote human health.

Both Honda and Yamaha announced tests on fuel cell technology in motorcycles during 2004.

I think the hydrogen motorcycle was invented some time ago. I believe its the fuel cell technology that is the current invention they are all going on about

Hydrogen driven engines have been around for over a decade. You're right in saying that it's the fuel cells that are the main cause for concern. The main probelm being storing hydrogen, a volatile liquid in this case, safely and being capable of carrying enough of it.

In 1998 BP developed solid hydrogen blocks. These are now being used by GM in some of their developmental work.

We had film clips of this on primetime TV here last week, if I remember correctly. They showed some pathetic little CT90 (or its clone) pootling around the streets like a galloping herd of turtles...)

In India, Sri Lanka and China they've been running m/c on LPG for years as well. They look kinda odd with a small cylinder instead of a tank, but they run well. There are also LPG outboard motors made by Mercury.

Well you could always report it yourself

Something to remember. If it is from somewhere like India, there is a good chance you'll see it first. Oddly enough, primary news sources over here (I'm based on the other side of the world, remember) will be concentrating on Europe, with a lot of interest in USA, Japan (because of the bike issue).

I'm not getting press releases from Indian Ministries, oddly enough - I have to work within a system that sees the press releases to out to local (ie Indian) publications, then they publish, probably in the specialist media, then from there filter out to the wider-audience publications... which means I then get access to them. And then cut out all the waffle and turn it into a neat, tidy, easy to read report that contains the facts.

If you would prefer someone else to try to come up with the items, then spend the considerable amount of time it takes to cut out all the waffle and then provide a neat, tidy report, I can always take a back seat...
