My illusions are shattered, you mean it's NOT all glamour'n'glitz and a fast pace of life, warm climate, 100's of beaches, cruising 'round the bays, dozens of motorbike shops and the fashion centre of NZed?? Why the hell do people live there if it's not like that?

I'll stay in the frozen South with hadly enough traffic to keep you alert, no flash shops, lower wages, lower still property prices, long distances between major centres, dearer fuel etc, it's redneck territory and I love it! - and we're pretty hospitable too.

It's all NZ, different burdens in different areas, it's just what you choose to accept, I guess.

I noticed that last time I rode down south - hardly set a wheel on land and a bloke in a black car with white doors waved me down for a chat. Gave me a bit of paper with his autograph, too. Very hospitable...

Wow, right on your front lawn. When I lived in Birkdale we had to a lesser extent problems with boy racers. One night two were racing, one lost control, curbed and plowed through our garden taking down our letterbox and the neighbours fence. At which point they piled out yelling "Push bro! Push!"

    Universal Drive...

I know Universal Drive well.... yep it is wide enough for them to race side by side.... at some spots... then it narrows up near the Rathgar Rd end...
I travel down that road quite a bit and see some interesting driving along that road.

Well the dude is lucky to still be alive... hope the cops and the courts throu the whole book at the lot of them.... hell's teeth the parents could be sorting out a funeral today for the little twat...

Motu - present the cops with the bill for ALL damage done to your property... and the twat will then have to pay for all damages.. if the power/light pole went down that will cost him thousands as well..... I hope the JP in the court doesnt just give him community work as that is what sometimes happens....

When will these kids learn.... and the fact that the mother of the lad knew about the race and was obviously encouraging it.. she also needs her head read.. hopefully now she will stop them doing it...

Where I live I hear them doing donuts late at night and burnouts...
Once, it was during the late afternoon and I was coming to turn into a street around the corner from my place... I couldnt see a thing in front of me from all the smoke... I had to wait until the smoke cleared.... and then I yelled abuse at all the twats... they did it on a smallish hill, so people driving over the hill coming from the other direction to me, could have had an accident.... these twats, just don't have a brain nor know how to think of the consequences....

It narrows to a pedestrian island between Rathgar and Riverpark,I reckon they were racing a chicken race to there, the Mazda got on front and lost control or was clipped - I reckon they must of been up close to 160kph,the sound of him spinning was like someone doing donuts, and after spinning all that way he still had enough speed to snap the pole like a matchstick. That there was no loss of life is just pure luck - forget the PC crap, put all these cars off the road and anyone who dresses funny gets locked up....I'm still upset about it.

    A well told story.

Friends and relatives at accident or emergency sites are, in my experience, the equivalent of diced carrots in vomit. No matter what you ate last, there's always carrots. God knows how they got there, they just are. Go figure.

    cat foot in collar

the cat foot in collar thing.... i have seen a cat put it's foot in it's own collar!
and during a race one of my blond dogs did the same!! and it was a slip collar!!!

so i think you will find that the cat did it to get some sort of recogniton.... you will have to pat it a bit more offten... it was a sign that you were neglecting it!!
    shame on you!!
what do you do all day?????
give the poor cat some affection!!..

I think we've pretty much summed up here exactly why I would never buy a house either on or close to a main road. And what about the cardinal rule, don't shit in your own backyard?!

I got out of the boyracing scene years ago. What got me was that a) you had young people with bugger all driving experience driving cars with 200kw+ and b) supreme confidence that because their dyno sheet was phatter (gotta love that word!) than yours, this equated to their car being faster everywhere including braking and corners and missing objects/people!

No allowance was ever made in their mind for the most important link in the whole speed thing - the human. Not many cars (or bikes) go that well with no humans controlling them.

Any 15yo can whack out a 12sec 1/4 in their tricked Evo. But can they then whack out a 65sec lap of Pukekohe? Or more relevant - miss the car that changed lanes in front of them... the kid that steps out...

Good luck with fixing the damage - lucky escape!! :disapint:

glad to hear all your family are ok Motu.

As for the cat's leg in a collar... well, they CAN scratch behind their ears with their hind leg so I wouldn't have though its out of the question to get it in their collar. If you mean the front leg then I'll admit I'm baffled but still wouldn't put it past them.

Yes,the cat has put her own foot into the collar before, and cats can fit into very small places, they really squash up well! But this was past her shoulder bone,no way would she get that into the collar, plus it was on a different setting anyway.Just the lowlife pricks in this area - a couple of nights ago I was locking up the cars and going to shut the big gates and I saw a lazer dot on the car next to me,I thought it was an alarm led,but that car hasn't got one,I looked all around but couldn't see anyone, there are young people just wandering around all times of night and day.
