    Guns (of the paint type!)

    Hi,
well in moving on with 'project ZZR' I decided to look at buying a compressor and paint gun (since I would have further use for them), well As for the compressor 'SuperCheap' have a $100 one, '12v, 160PSI' would this be suitable?

    and also, the paint gun;

how mucho greenbacko, where can I find the buggers, and where the hell to get the paint, because I spent all today looking/asking and got no where, which upsets me nether the less.

    anyhelp would be really great.

We had an airless one at work, but I sold it today. You should have been around a few weeks back, we had a 2.5HP 21L compressor going for $103.

Come into M10 bro, have you looked at this stuff there? We mix our owns paints to order etc.

    ah!

thanks ant, I will come in tommorrow and have a look around, I never though that you might have something suitable, but yea, that would be great if I could pick up something there! (I really have no idea what I'm looking for, so you or someone else may point me in the correct direction)

and then, you can use it to redo your tank if you wanted (i recall you wanted it redone?)

    cheers.

Do you guys do automotive paints? There is a huge variance in the types of paints and their applications

You need to look at the cu/m per min or whatever they call it these days, you don't need much psi to run the gun for paint, but you need volume of air,you need atleast 12 cu ft/min.If I was buying a gun these days i'd get a high volume low presure top feed gun, this has the cup on top.I've never used one so I wouldn't know, but my old gun is worth more in scrap than it's ability to paint.Don't go airless and don't get one of those old bleeder guns either,if you have other uses for it pay for something reasonable.

    suction feed,but nice

    ok ...
air-less you would need to use aound 1500 psi AT LEAST (to 2000+)to get the paint to atomise properly, and you would want to be doing aound 50m2 at a time....
    cost around 4-7k

motu is on the right track, the HVLP systems would be the way to go,
    cost would be around 5k+

i'm not an auto motive painter, but a spray pot that is gravity fed would be the best for paint a smaller area.

you should get the biggest compressure you can afford!

I used to be an Automotive Refinisher... (farq, they are gettin fancy)
Airless is good for industrial painting and cutting off fingers
AJT and Motu are right on the money....

buy heaps of thinners to clean your gun or it will last one use... my old ones were spotlesss, couldn't tell what colour i'd put through it... mind you, they were $600 each
If you're after a professional job, take it to a professional, or ask some one who knows to do it.. you can fuck up quite easy if you don't know what you're doing...

I thought paint guns were those weapons that 'wargamers' use. Fires paint balls. The other is a spray gun.
