    Ways to connect muffler.

Hi all, just wondering if anybody had any smart ideas in how I should try attach my muffler to the header pipe (extension pipe or whatever fancy name it has), I have a can with a 41mm (IIRC) inlet and the header is about 47mm any tricky ideas in a solution to this delema?

I preferably want ideas that can be done at home with my limited tools..

    thanks.

From my personal experiance beer cans are absolute crap, although easy to work, you will have to eat beans to achieve the material required for exhaust repairs.

You need a step up adaptor,go to Pitstop and see what they have, they can custom bend and expand for you.

Just checking to se if I have got this right: You are going from a larger diameter pipe to a smaller daimeter pipe?
What is the inside diameter of the larger pipe?
What is the outside diameter of the smaller pipe?
How much difference is there between the inside diameter of the larger pipe and the outside of the smaller pipe?
None or very little - no worries. Put split in the larger pipe (if one is not already there). Put the smaller pipe inside the larger pipe and clamp them together with a pipe clamp.
Only a few mm's - find a pipe the same (or slightly less) thickness as the difference that has at least the same inside diameter as the outside diameter of the small pipe (even one that is the same as the larger pipe is OK). Cut a section out of this pipe that is at less as long as the joint between your to pipes. Cut a slot full length of that section. Make this slot big enough so that when this section can fit inside the larger pipe. Put some exaust sealant on the outside of smaller pipe. Slide the section of pipe over the smaller pipe and put some exaust sealant on the outside of this. Put split in the larger pipe (if one is not already there). Put the smaller pipe, with the section of pipe on it, inside the larger pipe and clamp them together with a pipe clamp.
More than this you will need a pipe reducer, but then you should be asking yourself if the can has a big enough inside diameter for your bike to work properly and allows the engine to "breath" freely.

Thanks for that RIB and Motu.

The muffler in question is a perferated straight through muffler the internal diameter is 48mm and the header outlet is about 45/46mm so breathing is not a problem, thanks for thinking about it though RIB!

I am taking your suggestion of the 'skin' to fit over the top of it, this should be fairly easy todo tonight! If I bugger it up I will goto the muffler shop down the road (as per motu) and get one made up!

    Thanks alot again .

YOU CAN USE SILICONE TO FILL THE SMALLER GAPS, MAKE SURE YOU USE NEUTRAL CURE AS ACETIC CURE EATS THE STEEL EVENTUALLY, PUT IT ON A COLD EXHAUST AND GIVE IT 16 HOURS TO CURE
