    Dodgy forks?

How bad is it if your front forks make a clunking noise when pulled to maximum extension.

Guy from the motorcycle shop seemed to think it was quite bad and should be fixed. Sounds expensive, yes?

    Thanks

If you are able to afford the readers detail of the bike, its age etc then that may help the quality of any answers. If the clanging is adjudged to be abnormal ( and such usually is ) then inspection of the front end is called for sooner rather than later.

    Sorry thats a good point,

CBR600F2, 1991. Has been streetfightered with motorcross handlebars but as far as I am aware has a stock front end.

It was explained to me by the bike guy about the springs missing something, possibly a retainer of some sort, but I didn't fully understand.

    Cheers.

Okay, 17 years of wear and the possibilty of within that time poor assembly. Clearly internal inspection now rather than later is called for.
