Alpha 10 tyres?

Hey guys,

I'm just wanting your opinion on a set of tyres that are currently on my CBR250RR.

They are the Dunlop Sportmax Alpha 10.

Does anybody have any experience/details/reccomendations/etc about these tyres? I'll be replacing the rear and am wondering about their overall performance wet and dry.

Haven't experienced those tyres sorry to say, but on my CBR I had Dunlop Arrowmaxes and then replaced them with Bridgestone Battleaxes (bt-45) and it gave me so much more confidence in the bike, wet and dry. Good tyres and Cycletreads gives you a pretty decent deal on them.

Sticky as hell in the dry. I like the BT45's in the wet though. I think a lot is down to the bike and your own preference though.

alpha 10's are pretty much the best sports tyre you can get for 250's at the moment, i never used the equivalent (gpr70's) back in the day, i had the BT45 (not as sticky but lasts better) and the BT96 (soft + sticky) Bridgestones and never had any problems.

I'm glad to hear about that, but how are they in terms of lifetime and wet use? I don't want to make learning harder in the wet just because the tyres suck in the wet eh...

the alpha 10's are pretty racey and if you use your bike much you will chew through them. I run them on my race bike. Not sure about the alpha 10's in the wet as it has a very aggressive tread pattern.

On my roadie ive got the BT45's. Ive found them really good all round tyres (both road and track). They are really solid in the wet.

The alpha 10 is a bit softer and has the more agreesive tread so theres more on the road. but the BT's for road use are cheaper and nearly as good in the dry. youll only notice the difference if you really start pushing it on a track day.

I have had 2 sets of alpha-10s. The life of the tire has been increased since the days of gpr70's. Best tire I could afford so I went for it. Wet weather is wet weather... surface change is always there. They performed well for me even in stormy wet downpours. They are ok as a wet weather tire but they pay off when you want the extra grip in the dry. Ride to the conditions just make sure you warm them up a bit on the cold days before tipping in I learnt the hard way. Best tires for smaller cc bikes in my opinion.
