Lightbulb Nelson Rideouts - Where next?

Just thought a specific thread may work.

    Anything up this weekend?

I went up the Wairoa Gorge and did the Boundary Road/Ben Nevis loop yesterday. Scared myself a bit sh1tless when I headed back off a skid site and realised as I started down that I'd just chosen the downhill mountainbike track
Luckily it was short and had no big drop-offs or it could have been interesting
I got right up into the pines to the start of the Ben Nevis Track where it's too steep to ride. Turning around I realised that I do not like riding down a steep hill with wet pineneedles...

Nothing up there the KLR couldn't do fine.
Probably a hour to 2 hours loop from Nelson.

Hoping to get out on the 2T this weekend, get some practice & acclimatisation for the 3-hour next weekend.

But will settle for an adv ride if I have to! Going back to Wairoa gorge area would be fine by me.
    Cheers,
    Colin

oh Nordie you're taunting me... Good call with the Nelson thread though - kind of ties a few things together.

With family commitments I am probably only gonna get a few hours on Sunday avo for a ride. I would be keen for then but if that's not convienient with others I might have another go over Maungatapu - theres a rock there that needs blowing up.

How about Sunday afternoon then for...

Nelson, Apple Valley Road (Coastal Highway), Old Coach Road, Rosedale Road, Dovedale Hill, Pig Valley, Wairoa Gorge, Boundary Road, Ben Nevis, Wairoa Gorge, Nelson...

2-3 hours(ish) and none as gnarly as the Maungatapu and only a couple of small fords on the Ben Nevis road.

But don't cut corners up there as you may find some nicely cut branches from a windfallen tree sticking out onto the track.

Hope you guys dont mind me gatecrashing your conversation, but are all the trails you listed ok to ride at the moment? The maps are good. How do you get to the others youve listed? Cheers. Enjoy your ride - hope the rain goes!

If I leave Nelson just before 9:00 and I'll be in Pelorus at 10:00.
Or Leave at 10:00 and Pelorus at 11:00?

    Which is better for you?
