I hope trudes won't mind terribly if I grab the initiative here...

This guy aborted a climb of both the white cliffs of Dover and the K2.

Dunno. Ted Simons? Ewan McGregor? How anyone with the most rudimentary climbing skills couldn't ascend the White Cliffs of Dover is beyond me!! Bit like ice climbing. Unless they are a child or disabled at the time....? Or the K2 is a the roof of a local train...??

It's not someone you completely wouldn't expect, like Sir Ed, is it?

Hmmm I thought of him, saw him doing the White Cliffs a couple of weeks ago but didn't watch the whole episode. Man v Wild.

    Is that the answer?

    Well, we're not even close.

This guy had a very inquisitive spirit.

    A few more clues:

Red Hot Chili Peppers made an album - the title of which would be a strong hint.

I made an error - he didn't abort the climb of the Cliffs of Dover... But he was very close to dying.

He was bi-sexual and possessed a beastly intellect.
