Can we please have something a bit more obscure so that somebody other than the first responder gets a turn?

Mmmm....all very well but after a day of silence sometimes, the obscure clues become a roadblock.

    Riiiiggghhhttt.......lessee.......

This thinking man's racer I can remember watching and he was famous at the time. Today, he barely rates a mention on the web but his more famous friend, is still well-known. Or rather, well remembered.

You da Man!! Kinda had you in mind when I chose Rodger Freeth. It's a bit sad that he doesn't have any obvious tribute on the net. He was a good guy, an excellent motorcycle racer, but oddly is better known for his later co-driving in motorsport.

    Over to you.

I have fond memories of Dr Rodger tearing up Manfeild during those Castrol Six-Hour events of the 1970s. Very tidy and quick, for a geek.

OK then, let's try this for a starter:

"A high flying Czech and a famous last."

Here's a clue: It was all over in 1972.

Well I dunno Hitcher, I rather liked Tomas Bata. I reckon I'm right. A Czech, founder of the famous Bata shoe company (shoes are made on a "last") and died in an aeroplane.

    But ok I'll play along.

Eugene Cernan - Apollo 17 and the last man to set foot on the Moon.

My obvious Apollo festish is a weakness. Captain Eugene Cernan is the right answer.

This disordered academic visited NZ a couple of years ago, is internationally respected in their field, and has been the subject of documentaries. Their knowledge is of particular interest to pastoral countries like NZ.
