Tried to ride from Clevedon to Kawakawa at about 3.30 but police had closed the road because of an accident. Tried again about 4.30 but still closed. Hope everything is ok.

Hmmm double fatal on Clevedon-Kawakawa Rd - car vs bike - rider and driver killed according to the Police Comms Alert. Not good.
If it wasn't for a concise set of rules, we might have to resort to common sense!
