Same here re dam site, good on an xr500 or similar.

If in September keep in mind the 19th I think there is races at Hawera that day, maybe check the sign outside the gables on Waihi Rd to see what day,as Furlong can be busy, mind you the horse transporter drivers won't be there after races, just night before.

    Mmm hangi sounds good.

Hey all, yep I can do a sharp rate for the KB'er crew. I got a 40 bed hostel so heaps of space, just depends on when exactly as i have large forward bookings. Parking is outside but the lodge is set at the end of a cul de sac down a private drive way so all bikes can be safely parked right out front of the lodge in full view but well away from the road or public view.

Let me know as soon as you have a few possible dates ironed out

If you can get a "do" going like the Sth Island Kb'rs can I'm in . Don't want it too big big they can do it with only 30 odd people and it is great. For me it was the journey as well. The trip is part of it. Maybe you will get a few of them crossing the ditch. A couple of and you have a party.

we know a farmer out whanga who joins onto the whanga rd so it makes a good loop.
not sure of the length but a mate on his rm 250 only just makes the loop and he has run out of fuel once.
theres heaps of routes out there up foretry tracks and wot not.
i'm always keen to go out there for a spin.
this info only any good for off rd bikes i guess.

if you lot do decide to stay up the lodge at dawsons falls and want a hangi.
i only live about 5 mins from the intersection up to there so could sort the hangi down here at the farm and bring it up.
just depends on when you do it.
or you can do the hangi here and use our vehicle to take it up dawsons if i too busy calving as long as you leave enough for me to have a feed. yum

A great loop is from New Plymouth area, head north to the 8 mile junction, proceed right to Taumarunui then south onto the famous SH43 to Whanga for lunch then onto Stratford & onto NP again. That is an awesome ride, in either order. Fantastic roads with bugger all cars on them

Has the backblocks of Aotuhia semi sealed road now?We used to tramp and hunt the area back in the late 70-early 80's,the road to walkway was only a track, now seems to be sealed to top of Kohi saddle according to info sheets, likewise the bridge to somewhere used to take about 2hrs walk from the Herlihy homestead, they were good off road tracks for bikes, even better tracks at the time if quads were invented back then.
