    I've run once...

....... and never again. My riding turned to crap because of all the adrenaline sloshing about and I was lucky to get away with it. I was shaking so badly when I finally stopped that I could hardly hold the bike up. Definitely not a clever thing to do.

I think it was in the same article that was referred to here or maybe in Performance Bikes that a couple of exerienced bike cops on police bikes had a go on a race track against "average" riders on sports bikes. The results were very close indeed, with the cops beating some sports riders. Given that I'm a strictly average rider, I wouldn't be game to push my luck with a bike cop even with more horsepower. :disapint:

Best way to outrun a police chopper is head for the nearest airport. The chopper has to pretty much give it in as it can't cross the flight path. MV owner I know in LA did this. It took him a while to figure out what stopped the chopper but hiding in the LAX carpark probably did it.

If you still think this is a cool idea, go buy the latest BIKE magazine. The one with the 2005 'New Metal' feature.

They took a couple of sports bikes, a Police ST 1300 and a Police car to the testing track and let them have at it. The results were surprising! A bit of a worry actually!

It's a reasonably balanced article (IMHO).

I would not try it myself as just imagine running from the law on my Guzzi! Ha Ha! The tension would cause me to do somma daft and I would end up in a hospital bed and be banned!

Mind you. The long arm of the law might laugh so hard they could forget to give me a ticket!

WHEN I WAS IN AUS SOME OF THE BIKE GUYS I SPOKE TO THERE SAID THE COMODORES SUPPLIED BY HOLDEN FOR THE POLICE WERE AS QUICK AS MOST SPORTSBIKES I CANT VERIFY THAT , BUT ID DID READ SOMETHING IN AUSSIE AND SAW THE COPIES OF TICKETS A DUDE ON A ZX10 FLAT ON THE TANK FLAT OUT IN TOP GEAR WENT PAST A COP SITTING STATIONARY ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, THE COP CAUGHT HIM FROM A STANDING START WITHIN 3 MINUTES. I DONT BELIEVE EVERYTHING I READ BUT FARK THAT. MY NEIGHBOUR IN MELBOURNE WAS A COP I COULD TELL WHEN HE WAS COMING HOME , HE DROVE A SLAMMED PEARL WHITE COMMODORE .
IM STILL HAPPY TO DO RUNNERS WHEN I WENT TO PUKE I WAS STILL WAY WAY FASTER THAN ANY STREET CAR DURING TESTING DAYS.

    Another BIG factor...

Don't police have to give up the chase at 130km/h? Even if they don't: If you pass a car with laser at say 150, and then gun it on a new sports bike, you'll be doing 250 in seconds. By the time the cop has put his laser on the seat, started the car and pulled out from his spot, even accelerating in a ferrari, he'd have to do well over 300 to catch you anytime soon. Obviously, you'd want to take the NEAREST exit and lay low for a while. I think in alot of situations, you'd get away with it.

Would I try do a runner? I doubt it, but you do stupid things in the heat of the moment. I'd probably carry on at the speed I was doing, or a little faster, until he was behind me with his lights on, and I'd pull over straight away. If he never got behind me then good luck to me. I'd obviously make a few unplanned turns, and have a coffee stop earlier than usual, but I wouldn't lane split, and tear up the road trying to get away.

Am I wrong for thinking like this? (as in pull over IF he gets behind me and signals me to do so)?

    OH, one important point.

I don't usually speed lol. 95% of the time I'm riding at a legal speed. So it really wouldn't be a factor for me.

CK when you ever get a chance to speak to kk's dad you must ask him how many times he would be chacing down someone on the bike (sirens going lights on the whole cop thing) and someone will decide to switch from the lane next to him into his lane at the moment he is about to pass them. Let just say if I was a cop on bike lane splitting would be done without the lights and sirens it just seem to attract idiots.

But in any case I never exceeded the speed limit and have never done lane splitting Honest!

Well, thats what the law says you must do in that situation.

If you know you are being pursued you are technically failing to stop, however if you can't see the lights behind you, (because they are a kilometre back) then it would be hard to prove that charge in court. If you stop immediately once you are aware of the patrol car behind you, indicating for you to stop, then you would have a good chance of defending failing to stop. However, if you are eventually stopped you would have a shit show of defending dangerous driving. Your choice.

You must pick your times to run....if you're doing 120 and the coppers going your way you'd be pretty stupid......but if you're doing 180 ish and the copper's going the other direction then you're in with a chance. You're still stupid if you just try to outrun him though, you need to loose him quick and then hide for a bit,but get your phone out(or something)so if he finds you you can say you pulled over to answer your phone,or whatever, not that you're hiding.....if he's still onto you after more than a k or so best to give up before you run outta luck, just remember to have a good excuse ready for failing to stop.NEVER admit to running.
Most of the time you're better to just stop and take it,especially for minor offences(speeding etc),the only time I run is when I know I'm in deep shit already....
The only other bit of advice I'll give is if you're not feeling comfortable and you're riding over your head/out of control, STOP......it's not worth dying or killing someone else just to avoid a ticket/fine/loss of licence......though if they're gonna take your bike.....

Yep,I've pulled this one off,ran from one and got stopped by another further up the road(didn't hide after I got away....lesson learnt)who I stopped for with no hesitation, then denied knowing the first was after me....oh yeah, still got charged with'driving at a dangerous speed' though...
