I'm looking for a scoot to do the daily commute, 20 km each way with a couple of small hills - more economical than the car and saves hammering the Blackbird on short runs.

Needs to be able to keep up with open road traffic so 100kph cruise is a necessity as is a physically large machine 'cos I ain't small, but I don't want to go into the realms of the superscoots - Burgmans, etc. Apart from that I've no particular requirements so open to suggestions.

    Thanks.

Definitely scooter-like. I was looking at the Honda Dylan but they're a bit steep new, trying to keep it to below $5k.

I'll almost certainly keep it for several years until it falls apart so something well built and reliable.

    Burgman 250 FTW!
Check out www.motorcycletrader.co.nz and I'm sure Frosty will have some good ideas too.

This is funky - check out the stereo. Doubt it would pass muster in terms of build quality and reliability though

You wouldn't be interested in a GSX750F by any chance would you? (See signature)

Why specifically a scooter?? Seems to me a little 250 would be ideal. Most little scooters won't do 100 with a husky gentleman on the back.

And you can't take the little ones on the motorway.

Even a 400 should be a good idea - probably cheaper than a 250 in the current market.

Get a 250 crusier or street legal trail bike.

Weird! Hate to think how it handles in a cross wind.

Teapot! Had one of those before the 'Bird, a '98 750. A really underrated bike.

    And again, no. Sorry.

I'm after a scooter for a bit more flexibility in carrying stuff, a bit more weather protection during the winter commute and cheaper running costs (I'm thinking UK here).

Another bike is a bit too focused for what I want - a short commute on normal roads (no m/way).

    Besides Betty would get jealous.
