    Looking into boots

    Hey all,

not wanting to spend a huge ammount of money on boots, but i have large calf muscles and a lot of the cheaper brands tend to not really do up unless they have a zipper + velcro - but most of the cheaper ones dont have the zipper anyway..

had a try of these boots: http://www.colemans-suzuki.co.nz/con...x?entryPK=1679

very nice, very comfortable, fit nicely, but the pricetag is a tad higher than i would really LIKE to spend..

i mean they are great boots and will likely last me at least till i have my full and get a bigger bike and them some..

anyone have any recommendations of places i can have a look at or general brands/styles to look for?

I wear those exact same boots. They're perfectly waterproof, very comfy and offer excellent toe-feel for the brake and gearshift levers. Absolutely lovely.

Only comment I'd make is that they don't have toe sliders, and will come apart / stop being waterproof fairly quickly once you start dragging them on the road (and/or binning in them, ahem, although dragging the toes is what will fuck them the most, oddly enough). Mine are looking a bit sorry for themselves after only a year of use.

They'd be perfect for a cruiser rider, but my next pair of boots will have (replaceable) toe sliders and a bit more hard plastic to grind off generally before the leather starts coming away.

Red Baron is still having their Sale I think.
I recently got a pair of AXO boots from them for $200 which seem very nice.
For $280 they had Gaerne race/tour boots...waterproof with toe sliders, shinguards built in etc.
They were nice too...but I didn't see the need to spend the extra myself

I have spare set at home if you wanna "try" them. They smell a bit from being wet but nothing an odour sock or something can fix. If you want them send me a pm.

    lol kendog

Jrandom, when you say toe slider, what do you mean? still new to the whole bike gear world - never really bothered with anything past jacket and gloves on my scooter haha. Im assuming they are some kinda plastic/metal strip that takes the brunt of any dragging/scraping and can be replaced?

but yeah they were definitely comfy boots - i didnt try both on or see how they felt when sitting on the bike though - but i can defiintely do that when i get the bike.

That's the one. You'll see them on the gay multicoloured Spaceman Spiff boots that look like you should be wearing a one-piece toothpaste tube to go with them while you practice bending over and moaning.

(All motorcycle racers are homosexual - this is a known fact, admitted by many KBers of that persuasion. Occasional apparent breeding of babies with human females by motorcycle racers is a well-known ploy to fool you into thinking otherwise.)

But, yeah. Replaceable plastic strips that screw on to the outside of the toe area of your boot, so that when your foot touches down as you go around corners it doesn't grind away the bit where the leather joins the sole and eventually render them non-waterproof and not-entirely-protective-of-your-toes.

Unfortunately for the heterosexuals among us, those plastic strips are a pretty good idea.

Sidi Vertigos are what you'd want. A bit pricier than the Evos you were looking at, but only 23% as gay as anything with 'Alpinestars' on it.
