If a parent fucks a kid up, there's nothing we can do about it personally. Any input from society in general will just be completely washed away in all the negative reinforcement that the kid in question gets at home.

I agree that many young folk in this country need to be sent off to some sort of boot camp to be melted down and re-forged into useful members of society.

But running out into the street and dragging boy racers out of their driver's windows and then winding up in court with multiple charges over your head does absolutely nothing to further that goal.

It's all about properly targeted kicks in the arse that don't immediately saddle the kicker with an assault charge!

yeah he was a bloody idiot for the way he went about it, driving whilst disqualified, and then using the car pretty much as a weapon, he should have dragged him out then placed him under citizens arrest, in a rather rough way! unfortunately the kids probably being molly coddled now and feeling like a complete victim, and wouldn't have learnt a thing.
Cats land on their feet. Toast lands jamside down.
A cat glued to some jam toast will hover in quantum indecision

Curiosity was framed; ignorance killed the cat

Fix a computer and it'll break tomorrow.
Teach its owner to fix it and it'll break in some way you've never seen before.

Precisely my point. Mr Anderson's actions were, as you say (edit: as you said pre post edit) bloody dumb and extremely dangerous.

I'm not sure exactly what the law is regarding 'citizen's arrests'. Perhaps one of the resident coppers could enlighten us about what situations we can legally detain someone in?

I recall at least one case in the news where a truckie 'guided' a drunk driver off the road, and then hopped out and took their keys. Great example of constructive intervention.

Unfortunately, Mr Anderson's actions come across as angry reprisal, not constructive intervention. And the law doesn't look kindly on angry reprisal.

Good on him, boy racers should banned from the roads.

Caught doing burnouts, drag racing etc after one warning the law should be:

automatic 2 year ban, $5000 fine and car crushed.

Breach this 2 years prison and disqualified from driving for life.

This would sort out these little buggers and make the roads safe.

Vigilante justice. Available whenever the Plod can't get there soon enough.
cops are usually right on to boy racer and driver offences, its the other stuff they neglect like burgs and assaults , ramming a car into another car puts that guy right into the same catergory as the boy racer himself , still might have done the same thing myselve if in same situation, its to easy to comment after the fact

You're assuming that we are still a civilised society. Not any more and that's the point.
