Scooter mirrors

I have just taken delivery of a Suzuki AN125. When it was delivered I had a quick chat with the dealer sat on it again and then noticed that my arm was obscuring the mirrors. The dealer said just move the glass around until you get it right. Well I took it out today and found that although I could move the glass in the frame I still can't get to see properly whats behind me and that concerns me. Do any of you know how this can be corrected. Can you change the mirrors for ones with longer stalks. I can't get to the dealer for another week so I would appreciate any feed back.

What you meen thats what mirrors are for?
I thought it was just to see the girls at the bus stop when sitting at the lights.

Whats behind is of no importance...to scooter riders. To the left and right IS. Adjust accordingly. Scooter riders are also exempt from all laws... of the land, gravity, and common sense... ENJOY your scooter...

Bloody mirrors on 2-wheelers !

I have often said the only purpose of the mirrors on my ER650 is so I can check that I havent fallen off. ie, if I can see my elbows in the mirror, all is well !

I made extensions for mine out of steel, and powder coated them. They came up real nice - will put on a photo if you are interested, and they dont vibrate, so they are still useable.

Then on scooters..

Chinese scooters use the same thread on both sides, so they can use a single type of mirror and just put one on backwards. So the LHS mirror perpetually gets looser and looser, until you fuck the thread by overtightening it.

Better quality bikes have a left-hand-thread on the left hand side mirror. But this means you have to be very careful when you buy a spare set of mirrors, cos the dodgy third world manufacturers dont think of it.

And of course, the thread is usually stuffed, as somene has spent hours trying to force a RHS mirror into the hole.

Then peugeot just drill a hole, and put a nyloc nut on the mirror stem. Good luck trying to find a socket that will let you undo it without removing the brake lever and heaps of plastic.

Have fun finding which of the problems will bite you on your chinese made japanese scooter !

Thanks for that Dave. I needed some constructive information. I couldn't understand why they were so close in. Now I understand they are not built for wide shouldered Kiwis.

Please send the photo. I know to some of you what I am saying may sound like crap but I want to know who's up my arse and all I can see is my bloody arm. On my cycle I have a mirror which is fitted into the end of the handle on the bike, does anyone know of such a thing for a scooter.

I wonder if the AN250 or AN400 mirrors would attach to your AN125?

What is the measurement from where the left mirror stalk screws into your scooter to where the right mirror stalk screws in? I just want to compare it to mine so I know if mine is screwed in further apart or has longer stalks. If mine has longer stalks then you could see if they would screw onto your scooter, otherwise they wouldn't help. The AN650 would be no good - the mirrors are mounted to the fairing. I am not too sure if the AN250 is any different to my AN400 for the mirrors - they look similar.

Dave, have you seen a few issues with these? I have heard nothing but praise for them, although IMHO they wouldn't be my first choice. I would prefer the UZ125 over the AN125. Do you know where the UZ is made? I think it is Japanese...

Scooter mirrors (I'm sure) are designed to check that your elbows are covered up by your riding jacket and to get a WOF and thats about it.

Like Dave said - there are plenty of after market bits available, just make sure they fit.

Also you can always try moving your head about to get around your elbows and it makes for good habits to head-check everytime because all mirrors can have blind spots...

Or you could mod it out like this... More than a little ghey though...
