Hello to all, I finally purchased a bike and am now cruising very slowly around. I have been lurking on this site for a bit and thought it was an appropriate time to show my face so to speak. If there is any slow or patient riders out there who wanna give me a few tips it would be much appreciated

here's a tip, don't fall off na serimousely just treat every car driver as out to get you and you will have a good chance of staying on Expect them to pull out on you at intersections and from side roads, and be cautious going around blind corners incase there is something on the road.

like a female duck walking across the road. The duck wasn't the problem though. It was the guy who I was following who slammed on his anchors in the middle of what I thought was an empty street as I hadn't seen the duck. Luckily my following distance was OK.

Just keep alert and don't ever think you've got it mastered. If you survive the first 18 months intact you'll probably be OK.

Hi and welcome to kb and the big wide world of riding.

There a lots of good ppl on this forum who are very helpful and some will even help in a mentoring way. Due to distance I can only give advice so I will make s brief - When you are out riding, think of all the other motorists (especially car drivers) as people who think you are invisible ie ride like you are invisible. It will cause you to ride thinking defensively but sharpen your alertness and allow you to think about safety. Don't assume they have seen you - even if you can see their eyes.

hey Guys thanks heaps, yeah other cars are a worry for me cause there is still to much to think about (like not hitting the horn when I indicate, very embarrassing) that I find I'm not watching other traffic as much as I should. Still got to start somewhere aye

Like any new skill, you need to practice. Ride as often as possible in the first few months to consolidate you new knowledge and gain the confidence that comes from repetition. Over time things that seemed difficult become second nature, and you do them as a reflex without thinking.

Look up my wife on here........calls herself "blossom", she is also fairly new to riding and may be keen for a ride with you sometime.........the good news is that eventually better weather must come.
